It's great to find this active, helpful thread! Thank you.

I have 2 Silkies, both hatchery sexed as female, who are now 9 1/2 weeks old. One is considerably larger than the other (and spent his/her first few days in the brooder running around pecking the other chicks when they were eating, ignoring the 5 open spaces right in front of him/her to eat). We are wondering if this is a boy. I'll include pictures of both chicks, and would really appreciate your opinion on gender (knowing that Silkies can be hard to sex...)

Does anyone have any silkies that need sexing?

Thanks, Leah! Would you please have another look at my 2 buff Silkies ( both hatchery sexed as female), now 12 1/2 weeks old? The smaller one is now nearly as big as the larger one. If it's any help, the smaller one really struggled the first week of life, and while all our other chicks doubled in size that week, she didn't grow at all till the second week. We haven't noticed any boyish behavior in the larger one recently.

Here are 3 photos of the smaller Silkie:

Would you please let me know your present opinion on sex? Also, I would love it if in your reply you mentioned what characteristics you observe that lead to your judgment. Thanks so much!
