Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

Cats can be dangerous to young birds. Do you have a coop and pen for your chickens?

my cat would grab a chick by itself, but my cats fear the big bird. They think of a chick like a regular bird, then suddenly there are birds as big as them??? My cats fear chickens.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X4, cats, especially feral cats, can and will kill chickens and chicks. You should use hardware cloth, not chicken wire on your coop, chicken wire is not very strong and other predators like racoons can break right though it.

Welcome to BYC!

I wouldn't take the chances with cats as things do happen. Never use chicken wire to protect your birds. It can be chewed thru very easily by night time predators. Hardware cloth is much preferred.

Good luck with this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!
