Don't tell the wife, I'm growing fodder in the 2nd bathroom!

And besides, we want pictures. What the heck is a barley tower?

Here is a picture of my fodder tower which I built to grow barley fodder for the chickens. It was a little too tall to fit into the bathroom in the house, so I had to cut it off after 6 bins tall.

If interested, check out my original article My $10 Inexpensive DIY Fodder Tower with Dollar Tree Dish Bins. You can see the barley fodder growing in the lower bins in this picture, but the article shows all the bins day by day.

OK, thanks for the suggestions. I'll add them as....

You could be clueless as to what she's talking about and ask if she put it there because you surely didn't but it sure was a good idea , thank her and walk away.

Or the fodder saves money, it's cheap chicken feed which keeps the chickens happy and if they are happy then your happy so everyone will be happy it's a win for everyone.

Ok. You are missing the point. Happy wife = happy life. My happiness = null. So I'll just take your idea and rework it as....

6) The fodder saves money, it's cheap chicken feed which I know you (wife) would appreciate. So if you're happy, and the chickens are happy, then it's a win for everyone!

I love all the excuses. My excuse would be that I must have done that while sleepwalking, because I sure don't remember.
But I have a couple of questions, @gtaus: Did you mention that there is a noticeable smell from the water soaked barley? Also, do the sprouts need light to grow green? I'm picturing pale spindly sprouts that smell like a brewery. So I am interested in your indoor experiment.

I haven't dabbled in sprouts yet...but if you're leaning towards blaming the tower on BYC...what about starting a "secret sprout along" or "fodder friends" thread?

Blame the wild popularity of your original fodder tower. Tell her the BYC masses were clamoring for more sprouts! The chickens of the world need your passion and guidance to ensure winter sprouts succeed for others! Plus...it's saving money :)

Free humidificacione.

Very nice, I add it to my list as....

7) No, it's not a fodder tower, it's a low cost, non electric humidifier because we know how dry it gets in the house in the winter. Instead of changing out humidifier filters, I just exchange the bins to keep everything fresh for you, but I don't mind because your comfort is very important to me.

Besides, don't people make a health tea out of this stuff, it used be called barley green during the 80's and was all the rage because you put it in your smoothies and it keeps you, ahem, regular, YOU know.... regular. So it's just all-around good for you!

Oh, nice twist there. It goes on the list as....

8) It's a tower of medicinal herbs I am growing for our health. It's good for our diet and constitution. I know how health conscious you are and just thought I would surprise you when the fresh herbs were full grown.

Hehe. Here's BBH, jumping up and down squawking loudly, clicking her spurs and flapping her wings .... and in this corner, Tx Ki, lounging casually on a sofa, snapping her gum, peering out from under her comb, sipping a Scotch on the rocks, sneering, yeah, , Boss, we'll take the blame, we's kin handle it ... nuttin' to it. :lau

:yuckyuck. Oh what a picture you paint, @BigBlueHen53 !

+1
