I am so sorry for your loss. I too had a fire from a heat lamp to burn down my coop this week. I lost my 7 hens that were less than a year old :( We found it early Monday morning after all was lost.
Maybe we can heal together.

I feel your pain. I lost 5 of eight hens to raccoons my first week of keeping chickens back in June.
Don't rely on the manufacturer to provide a safety chain, add your own with some wire.
I inverted a 12" clay planter over a heatlamp screwed into a porcelain lamp base, not enough heat for a large coop but way safer. Also it prevents the hens from getting too much light. A GFCI receptacle won't shut off power in the event the lamp comes in contact with dry straw or pine shavings, inevitably leading to a fire.

Don't use heat bulbs. I've heard that before...
Thought it couldn't happen to me.
I was wrong. It hurts so much to go through this.

I'm really sorry.

Please don't beat yourself up about it. As I posted to another member who is grieving today, at one time or another we've each looked back and wondered what we could have done differently....in all matters of life. Now you can continue to give testimony and warn others.

It has been my experience that when people lose loved ones (human or otherwise), it helps the grieving process to share pictures of them or stories about them. Do you have any pictures of your chickens that you'd like to share?

Don't take this the wrong way as I am only asking, not trying to be rude. What breed of chickens do you have and what climate do you live in that you feel the need to use heat lamps, especially after losing one coop to fire. Last week we had a cold snap with air temps below zero and wind chills between -30 and -40f. My mixed flock did just fine and they had 4 windows open in their coop.

I'm so sorry....I hope you can find comfort somehow in all of this. My husband and byc has been a great source of strength for me...

BIG HUGS FOR YOU FROM ME.
