Door for coop on fully enclosed living quarters????

Raccoons are everywhere, even in cities. I have my run enclosed with hardware cloth, and I do leave the door to the coop open. Then I don't have to get up at the crack of dawn, or rush home before sunset. It's worth it.
Definitely know that coons are everywhere lol. I just don’t ever see then around my area. But I’ll be getting an automatic door lol

Good call. You have raccoons. Unless you live on an island or at very high elevation, every city in California has raccoons. You probably don't see them because they are active at night. I find city raccoons far more bold than country ones. My neighbors just had one pull off a window screen and raid their kitchen!

We also get Cooper's Hawks here during the day The chicken wire over the run should be okay protection from them.

wow that’s a bold raccoon I would have met it with a loud boom and quite the mess to clean up 😂😂😂 but thanks for the info

At some point it will probably be worth having a pop door, even if you almost never use it. Sometimes when cleaning the coop or for some other odd reason, you may want to keep the chickens out of the coop or out of the run for some period of time and a door will make that much easier.

I also went the path of a secure run that is 'always open' to the coop. Still every once in a while I find a reason to shut the pop door.

OK then, I have an article about hot climates. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/hot-climate-chicken-housing-and-care.77263/

The more open your coop the better in a hot climate. I don't know how much ventilation you have, but I find that I need at least double or triple the suggested minimums to keep the coop under 100F on a 90F day.
thanks for sharing article I will check it out. There’s an operational window in coop and the whatever vents between roof and structure. They also be able to access shade under hen house. And that part of my yard gets shade first.
