Need to finish trimming but if we don't get rain today I'm gonna try to paint!!!
We added a hinge as well as another latch. Hubby says raccoons don't like chicken...so no carabiner yet ugh.

A carabiner isn't anything fancy - you don't need a strong one, just something passed through the hole to keep the latch from being lifted up to a position where it can slide. The sub-$1 ones at Walmart etc. or a keychain one (if it's not too tiny!) will do.

We use a spare vinyl coated wall hook to insert into the hole, the vinyl keeps it from sliding off, holds very well. It's something like this:
