Dosage for Duramycin/Tetracycline??

Q: What dose and frequency do you recommend for doxycycline use? A: A variety of doxycycline treatment protocols have been recommended and have been demonstrated to be an effective component of a heartworm treatment protocol. The American Heartworm Society recommends a dose of 10mg/kg twice daily for 4 weeks.

That is one of the questions I read on this page http://www.maddiesfund.org/assets/documents/Institute/How to Treat Heartworm - Audience QA.pdf

I've been looking for the one that said 20 and I have no idea what page that was on.

I read on another one of your post that you said it was 1.25 tsp per quart. So if I make that up, then just suck up a syringe full and shoot it down her throat, would that work if I did it 3x a day?

No, that will *not* work. Not enough medication in 1.25 teaspoons. How many mg do you want to give? Another thing, all these sites talk about using doxycyline, not tetracycline. not sure that it matter, but that's something you should verify.

LOL I am sitting here and my brain just literally stopped working haha too much math! I gotta hand it to you, your posts are pretty handy! :) Its oxytetracycline.

I would like to give her 700 mg for her weight of 70lbs. I think I've narrowed it down to 1/8th of a tsp per quart working off your 1 Tablespoon per gallon. I just would like to be able to make up a cup full of this medicine a day and suck it up in the syringe or however much I need lol

With the powder *you* have there are 825 mg of tetracyline in *5* teaspoons. With me so far?

I know it's confusing, was for me, too.

Your bag has 10 grams of oxytetracyline
Sorry, I thought you had tetracyline.

Your bag should contain 18-20 level tablespoons of powder.

10 grams = 10,000 mg
10,0000 mg divided by 700 mg = 14.28 doses, so if you give it twice a day a bag will last 7 days.

Yes... with ya still :) The water...... is it so concentrated that it has to be mixed in a gallon? Or does that even matter?
