We are in our 60s
Good Morning
My wife and I are in are mid 50s and do the same thing. I don’t take on big projects anymore just what I can handle and I also look out for when it’s our time to go what my 2 girls deal with. I try to keep my place clean and tidy anymore have a few more things I need to get rid of outside and find tune one of my field. I thought about raised flower beds but that would be just one more thing they have to deal with. Here’s a pic of Half Pint and her Calf and the Goats and I’m including a pic of where she standing how it looks now. I took some pics yesterday I moved a bunch of Chicks around I’ll post later.

Good morning!! :) We are the same way with things, we are already paring down things, no need to leave too much for others to clean up after we are gone. Yep, no more big projects for us either! :D Keeping busy keeps you young, but there is a line to be drawn somewhere. :gig It's best to know our limits. Cute photo of Half Pint! 💖 She looks so sweet. Wow, that field really healed after Half Pint and goats were gone! Very pretty. I had Pygmy Goats for years too, they just tore up everything, including trees. Goats are fun but quite destructive. Thanks for sharing photos! Can't wait to see your chick pics too! :)

Yes I had Pygmy too at one time they can tear up stuff. I had all of the livestock in the barn lot because I was extending it and fencing off about 4 acre’s of my woods for them. My main field I was planting Winter Wheat I did this about every other year. After Half pint died I still had my goats but one day I came home from work and the wife said a stray Pitbull got into the fence area and killed the last 3 I had that I raised from birth. The UPS man saw the attack tried to stop it the dog chased him to his truck. After that I did get any livestock and sold my chickens they was done laying any way kinda gave up on the Hobby Farm life for Many years. This is what it looked liked for years after my livestock died. I just gave up and I was letting my physical condition with Arthritis rule me. Now I rule it more but there’s times I say it’s not going to happen today but the next day after I’ve took a break I get back after it. These pics make me so sad I let my Farm go.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry about the Pit bull attack. :hugs We have a neighbor here that never keeps his Pitbull and German Shepard on a leash, they are always running loose. I keep mace on my hip when I walk our dog as I just never know where they will turn up. Some dogs are awful around all creatures, even humans at times. Wow, you really got the field all cleaned up and looking nice! This sort of thing does take a lot of work to keep it looking neat and tidy. I get it though, arthritis is definitely wreaking havoc over here too, however moving is better than not, nights and mornings are the worst for me, however once I get out of bed and get moving, I feel better. Motivation is another story all together. If I don't kick my own butt daily, nothing will get done. :gig I am at constant war with myself to keep moving.

I was just like that for many years till I quit my driving job of 25 years it was so toxic at the last. I got a 2 new part time jobs on driving a dump truck and the other is working at a Feedstore/ Mill that I’ve always wanted to work at but our finances couldn’t do it. I finally got a pattern how to keep my yard and Barn lot grass cut and it works. I’m satisfied with the was the place is going now.

Moved some baby chicks down to the barn today and the Delaware’s are adjusting nicely. If your wondering why my feeders are hanging up is because to keep the mice at bay been seeing a couple and thought I would try this. Going to set some traps as soon as they get here.

Good morning!

It's always good when we know it's finally time to leave a job. All my life I had very physical jobs, all of them beat my body up. By my mid 50s, I was trashed, my back was destroyed, my hips and feet hurt, I just couldn't work any more. So I retired myself. :D Not only physically but mentally it really did me good. We need to do what's best for us.

Very nice digs for the birds!! Yes I pick up all feed and water at night too because of mice. I'd pick up your water too, you can just dump it over and set it upside down until morning. Mice get into water too. Mice are difficult to control. I keep 2 mouse traps set in the coop, one up in the attic, and 1 behind the nest boxes, both places are inaccessible to the chickens and it keeps the mouse population down. Thanks for sharing!

Yes I’m in my mid 50s and worked hard all my life. I found that out last year when my company I dedicated 25 years of my life and was top employee treated me like I was trash a part broke on a piece of equipment that I was working and I fell hard on my back hurting my neck kept working like a idiot a couple days later I had to take off about 4 day thank God I’m getting better.

Oh that's terrible! :hugs Glad you are improving. The days of being cherished for staying at a job all our lives are pretty much over. We've all become disposable unfortunately. I am so glad my working days are over! :D
