Dougie has hurt herself again!

she made it through the night okay, this morning she is laying down quietly in the corner, no panting, no gasping, just resting.
I'll see if I can pick up a dog crate today for her, it will limit her more than the pen and ensure her sister (bless her, she's worried abour Dougie too and is pretty unsettled) doesn't knock her off balance at all when she spooks/runs to the food. I'll put the dog crate inside of the pen so that she is still very close to her...
I'll see if the vets will see her asap.
Sorry I didn’t see this earlier, but I don’t really have anything to add that hasn’t already been suggested. But I’d second the water therapy. Might help strengthen it, and let her take some weight off it. You might consider looking into slings to place her in also, if it gets really bad. I’m not sure what to think about the panting, my first thought was egg issues, but if she laid in the morning, that’s probably not it. 🤷‍♀️
in the meantime, or if the vets arent available, does anyone second the sling idea? My worrying mind was trying to think of all kinds of solutions last night and I wondered if maybe a wheelchair type thing, keeping her from putting weight on her leg could work- or would that be too extreme at this point?

Hopefully the vets can rule out egg issues- Worst case scenario, if she has broken her leg or something similar, what kind of treatment would she need? I assume they will likely do X-rays to check for an egg or break?

The vets were really sympathetic and helpful on the phone- It has eased my anxiety and made it a bit easier to talk to them (I dont do well with phone calls) she's booked in for tomorrow morning. Meanwhile I'm picking up a dog crate this morning to make her a more comfortable smaller space. It'll mean she won't get herself stranded away from the water, everything will be closer.
Should I bring Sprightly to the vets too? I'm a bit worried about leaving her home alone incase we're gone a long time, she gets very stressed without Dougie. Dougie will be okay either way, she's content as long as she has either Sprightly or me. I'm just worried about them going into a crate together as Spright is bigger and clumsily bumps into Dougie.

She'd be okay while your at the vets. No sense in taking both. It would just be extra work for you and why expose both the the vet clinic?
yeah, I've decided to leave her home, hopefully she doesnt get too stressed on her own- this has all been quite hard on Sprightly, she's been very unsettled. Dougie will be fine anyway since I'll be there.
I've picked up the dog crate and Dougie is settling in there now, this will also help me to see exactly how much she is eating, drinking and how her poops look

@BelovedBirds, I have been away for several days and just came across this thread. I hope things go well for your beautiful Dougie.
me too, it's really hard seeing her hurt, she had a lie down and nap on my lap this morning after a deep bath, she doesnt even stand up when I pick her up, just lays there

How's she acting today? Hows her limp?
she isn't panting anymore, breathing has calmed, but she is lying down a lot and she is having to use her wings to help her stand up when she does move, she falls down a lot with basically every step, she doesnt want to put any weight on her leg at all. The leg doesn't feel hot today... She's still eating but not as much as usual, drinking plenty

No egg today? When you had her in the bath did she use her injured leg at all?
egg as normal laid this morning, she did use her leg- She didnt really paddle with it, but she surprised me by scratching her head with her bad leg- she's definitely able to move it, bending the joints or stretching the leg a little but, but only when the weight it off. Most of the time she just let it sit still and used her good leg more. She does however leave it out to the side slightly, in the water, I tried to take a photo but they ended up blurred because she kept moving.
She got soaked because she isnt preening so I dried her a little with a towel while she had a rest on me after.
