i have a white silkie dove pair i purchased from a woman about two weeks ago. She said they are a very broody couple. So the female laid an egg the very day i got her, then another egg a couple days later. They are both setting on the eggs. But when i passed by earlier, one egg was peeking out and it looked like it was pipping. i counted and we are at day 14. i hope they know what they're doing because i have no clue about hatching doves. i wonder, is it the same for doves as chickens, in that it can take 24 hours or so from pip to zip? i have given them hay several times for their nest but they have kicked it all out of the cage. i guess they know best.

Pigeon eggs hatch in 19 days as a rule of thumb.

So I would expect you are probably right with your dove egg pipping at 14 days (one of those early bloomers).

They are usually hatched in 24 hours after pipping as a rule of thumb.

Wish you good luck!! :)

Happy for you Sunrise. If your birds showed the stamina to hatch the squab I am sure they probably have an equal amount of devotion to raise it to adult hood.

They sure look very fragile at the beginning!
This is a just hatched pigeon squab.
Yours would be even smaller than this guy.

Wishing you the best.

So, i'm used to chicks, ducks, baby turkeys, geese. They all come out peeping with their eyes open. How long before doves or pigeons open their eyes? And will it ever make noises? This is all new to me, but very exciting!

Here are some pictures. First is of the protective parents. Second one, it's hard to see but the baby is under mom's right wing and bottom. If you look close you can see the baby tail, right foot and wing. It's so tiny!

Yes they will squeal . I just read that Doves like Pigeons open their eyes at around 4-5 days old could be wrong though. Here is a video of a squab squealing I don't know if a baby dove would sound the same though. Hope this helps :)
