Victorians have woken to more icy conditions this morning as the mercury plunged below zero across the state yesterday.

A number of weather records were broken during Monday's cold snap and the Bureau of Meteorology said cold morning conditions would continue throughout the week.

On Monday Melburnians shivered through their coldest start to a day since August 1 last year, with a low of 2.3 degrees Celsius recorded at 6am, at the Olympic Park weather station.

"Most notably for Gippsland was Morwell where it reached -3.9 degrees, that was the lowest daily minimum temperature on record from May in 42 years of data," senior forecaster David Crock said.

This morning, at Coldstream, the temperature dipped to -5.4C at 7.30am.

This week's cold snap followed weeks of mild and dry weather that has put added strain on farmers dealing with drought conditions.

Mr Crock said it had been an "unusual May" thanks to a series of blocking high pressure systems directing warm air across Victoria.

"Last week, most places around Victoria, we're looking at the first half of May being about 4 to 5 degrees above average," Mr Crock said.

A heavy frost has blanketed parts of the state this morning.

"The frost warning is for significant crop damage which can result from the frost in agricultural areas and it can make driving slippery," Mr Crock said.

We worry about the rains on the east coast every time we hear the heavens have opened SkyAJK, because our daughter is based in Brisbane. Her car parking bay is 2 stories underground, so if it floods, enough said.
I hope the rain leaves those of you on the east coast for a while and comes over here to the west coast where it has finally dropped to 11 degrees at 8.16AM, but still has not started raining.
.....It is flooding in part of NSW, somehow it will travel up North, if we dont get excessive rain, we will get decent amount of rain and rain we have had enough of it!!

Let hope not so much rain that it flooded.....NO more rain!

This morning I scraped out mold that grow and flourish on my pavement....the mold.

I am praying and sending some rain your way!🙏🌦️
You don't want too much rain like we have been having since 2024

Thanks @SkyAJK, I was just catching up on your posts. My son lived at Bulahdelah for a time - I'm glad he's not there right now. The rain hit north of me here in Wollongong, so nothing to worry about. I see Sydney was hit by strong wind, lots of trees down as usual. We had a temp of 7C brrrr! The dogs were ordering food all day lol
Praying and sending rain where it needed most. 🙏 🌦️

There is nothing much to mow here yet. I usually don't buy hay for money at this time of year, but tomorrow I will clean out the goose barn, taking out all the manure. After drying it out for a while (it's rainy, though, and I don't know how soon the floors will dry out after cleaning), I'll need to lay new bedding there, but there's nowhere to mow the grass and dry it yet - there isn't enough of it, it's too low, the geese and goats graze quite well, but it's clearly too early to mow. In general, I couldn't think of anything better than cutting branches from the spruce and pine trees broken by the wind and covering the floor with pine needles.

There is no hay being cut yet here either. I was just cutting the grass around the house and barn to keep it short, it was about 4 to 6” deep and not only looked untidy but make one’s feet wet on the morning and harbours mosquitoes. Cutting it short keeps the grass drier and keeps mosquitoes at bay. Also keeps my feet and ankles dry hahahaha - hate wet feet walking through wet grass from heavy dew.

Hay is usually not cut until mid June here.

I like your idea of using the pine needles as bedding.

Sorry to hear about the crazy weather. We too have been unsettled and chilly for the most part.

Be safe!
