It’s a chilly morning, and I am betting a good frost on the ground. Hopefully my covering the tomatoes and new seedlings will have protected them. I also brought all the hanging flowers inside.

Currently it’s 0C (32f). Just heading out to do morning chores, the horses will be cold this morning when I put them outside, they don’t have any winter hair coat left now. But the sun will be up soon so that will help warm them up.

There is no hay being cut yet here either. I was just cutting the grass around the house and barn to keep it short, it was about 4 to 6” deep and not only looked untidy but make one’s feet wet on the morning and harbours mosquitoes. Cutting it short keeps the grass drier and keeps mosquitoes at bay. Also keeps my feet and ankles dry hahahaha - hate wet feet walking through wet grass from heavy dew.

Hay is usually not cut until mid June here.

I like your idea of using the pine needles as bedding.

Pine needles are great and seem to be almost water-resistant.

Here, during a strong wind with rain and heavy wet snow, many pines and firs broke off, as a result I got a whole mountain of free branches with needles. Well, in general, the idea is to clean out the duck and goose sheds and dry the wooden floors a little, then cover them with these branches. When all this becomes dirty and mixed with manure - well, then I will just pull it all out, put it somewhere in the corner of the plot in a pile, and let it lie and rot, so that later it can spread around the garden or vegetable garden. Rotten needles give a somewhat acidic reaction to the soil, but if you dilute it with wood ash, eggshells and some chalky lime, you will get quite decent soil. And if i will to sow sorrel, i can generally leave the soil acidic and not to bother.

.....It is flooding in part of NSW, somehow it will travel up North, if we dont get excessive rain, we will get decent amount of rain and rain we have had enough of it!!

Let hope not so much rain that it flooded.....NO more rain!

This morning I scraped out mold that grow and flourish on my pavement....the mold.

It seems that the climate on the planet has become somewhat more humid. On the one hand (if we take Russia) this is good, peat bogs have stopped burning here, in addition, bogs actively absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, on the other hand - other regions of the world have become openly flooded with water and this has begun to cause destruction. I heard that even some fields in North Korea were flooded, and some arabian deserts have become... overgrown with grass! There was bare dry sand and only lizards and camels for almost centuries, but now green grass has begun to grow. And abundantly! If this continues, what if forests begin to grow there. It's a pity that I'm too busy to go and see the local, eternally drying up Klubish River, which is usually a set of puddles and wet sand and that's it. I suspect that if this continues, I'll be able to buy a cheap plastic boat and start sailing on it. It's a good thing my house is on a hill.

I noticed that the volatile and destructive weather since last year. Rain is too excessive and prolonged. I can see its destruction in my little garden, mangoes tree fruits rotted from the inside, some looked green outside, but all rotted inside, this is exceptionally new to me. I have this mango tree for more than 20 years, it was fruitful and beautiful large fruits.
I see many insects in my garden that I have not seen before. What I love most is the butterfly, there are so many and many variety of them.
