Dozen egg prices?

I just sold my first dozen and a half the other day. I had given a few dozen away before, just to get people interested and then the laying slowed down for the winter. "Organic", brown, free range eggs at the grocery store go for over $5/dozen. I was going to charge that for 18 and $4.00 for a dozen, but the lady that bought them from me insiste on paying me $6.00 for 18 and gave me three egg cartons.

Of course, it's all about supply and demand. There aren't a lot of chickens on Kodiak.

Needless to say, I'm adding 2-3 more hens to my flock this spring.

I live near Ocala, Florida. I sell to some local retail markets for $1.50 a doz and friends $2.00 a doz. I save any smaller eggs for us. I'm planning on getting more birds when I build my new coop. The demand is more than my supply. I sanitize my egg for sale to retail markets. I think the eggs are perfectly ok when they aren't sanitized but I do for my retail buyers.
