Dozens of dead and dying chicks.

I'm so sorry that you've had to deal with such losses and especially when this situation was so preventable. :hugs

I'm very glad you are taking pictures and have contacted the head office. There is no excuse for the lack of compassion and common decency she showed in regard to these chicks.

I wouldnt bury them yet, till its firmly documented WITH the bodies, if you have the room, cold storage, for the time being AND I would be SUING the PO and the employee, Cruelty To animals charges are usually taken seriously.... That just makes me ill.

I lost a few more chicks since this morning, but the Nutri Drench seems to be helping those that were simply lying around and not really reacting to anything other than swallowing when I tapped their beaks with the dropper. I have two still in the 'chick ICU,' which is what I've dubbed a dog crate for the really critical ones that don't move at all. One has been lifting it's head sometimes and looking around a little when I check on them, so I am hopeful. *crosses fingers* Worried about the white cochin with it though. It will drink a little when I tap it's beak, but it's quite limp and hasn't opened it's eyes. Just the occasional chirp is all I've gotten out of it besides the swallowing.

Don't bury them freeze them. They may want proof of the dead more then pictures. Did you open the boxes at the post office and show them the dead loss?

Sadly, there's no room in my freezer for so many dead chicks and unfortunately they were starting to smell. I took a whole lot of pictures though and I am filing a PS Form 1000 for all the boxes of chicks with all these pictures attached as proof.

Post office refused to let me open the boxes inside. I wasn't even able to pick them up inside. They told me that my chicks were out back BEHIND the post office, by the back door. So, that's where I ended up picking them up.

Talk to the chicken places you bought them from too. Let them know what happened.

I plan too. Already called and left a message as well as an email at each hatchery, but they don't work weekends, so I'll call again tomorrow first thing.

Sadly, I just checked and lost the little white cochin. Brings my surviving number of chicks down to 66 of 111.

Out of my original delivery of 111 baby birds, only 39 chicks remain alive, and thankfully they appear healthy. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, many succumbed to the cold they suffered from being left in a cold storage room overnight at the post office. Both hatcheries are reshipping all my lost birds at no additional cost, but they are the ones who are taking a loss on the shipments as USPS might not cover the insurance apparently.
