Well even though we spent the night we didn't hear anything last night...I wish we would have. My mom got up early to check on everything and I was tired so I kept sleeping. I am kinda glad I didn't go. My mom found Pip dead in the pen with most of her body eaten instead of her head and neck. Also we caught a opossum but my dad doesn't think the opossum is the one that did it. We got some pictures on our trail cameras of two big raccoons. My dad thinks they are working together. After Church I will have to show you the pictures. The coons chewed a hole in the netting we had fixed and got in. So I want some opinions but we are turning all the remaining peafowl lose...They will hopefully be safer that way. Alto is a good boy he should hopefully stay and Damsel has been with me since she was a yearling just like Alto so I am hopping she would stay also. Ice is still on her nest, I have no idea what to do with her I guess we should close off the small pen and reinforce it a bunch. I can't have anything else die, so we will open the large pen and the peas can come and go in and out of it if they want. If they run away I just hope they stay someplace safe and maybe get a nice owner.

It really looks like it is going to be a death sentence if we leave them in the pen because the whole thing can be broken into by these two big coons.

I have know idea what is going to happen. Poor Pip Alto is probably heartbroken that was his girlfriend.

I hope your remaining kids stay safe outside the pen! And I hope you can protect Ice on her nest

AWWW!!! How awful sorry for your loss

If you do have raccoons I would set a trap because raccoons come back.. We keep traps out every night and I can't even think of how many coons and possums we have caught we just relocate them.. So sorry

MF, I can't possibly imagine how badly you feel right now after experiencing such devastating losses, one after another. It is quite possible that these 2 killer coons just appearing out of nowhere might possibly be someone elses "relocated" coons. Just my opinion, but relocating a coon, especially a coon that had developed a taste for domestic birds, is nothing more than passing on your problem to some other unsuspecting bird keeper.

mabey if you let them free range tonight they can go up high in the trees and then a racoon cant get them and then in the morning you can try to find them but set the trap again because they will probably come back tonight and when me and my dad set the trap we had to tie the food to the back of the trap because they draged the food out and took off with it so we had to tie it to the back so they cant run off with it

Yeah we probably will let them lose today after Church...

Pip was a great peahen. I got her after I penned Ice after Fire my first peacock ran away. Pip became friends with Ice when Ice was very lonely. Then I got Alto. Pip and Alto where inseparable. Even before Pip was dead both Alto and Pip were always hanging out together and Damsel tagged along. Alto was inlove with Pip and displayed for her the most. Pip was a favorite among the peacocks. They always displayed for her the most. Pip was a very short India Blue peahen, when we got her in the pen with Ice we realized just how short Pip was. Pip was probably the lowest ranking bird, but she also had the most attitude because when we let our poodle in the pen Pip would jump on our dog and peck at her so now our dog is afraid of peafowl! Pip also liked to display at squirrels to scare them out of the pen. Pip had trouble laying eggs for the first time because she would lay them off of a roost, but later she learned to lay them on the ground and then tried to incubate some eggs. She did a good job but the dog box floor was too hard and she ended up cracking all her eggs, which was my fault cause I didn't know she would scratch through the hay to the bare box floor for her nest.

Pip was always a little shy but eventually she started eating out of my hand. She was always an expert bug catcher probably the best one in the pen and she loved fruit the most too. I will really miss that short little peahen. Now that she is gone I noticed Alto was sticking close to Damsel. The three amigos are over...Alto, Pip, and Damsel is now just Alto and Damsel. I definitely know Alto is gonna miss Pip, and all of us will too. I got Pip at the same place I got Dragon but Pip grew up free-ranging and I got her as a yearling. I planned on free-ranging Pip with Alto next summer and I am sure they would have been a happy free-range couple but I can't do that anymore.

Later I will get those raccoon pictures up...We still have four traps out there, I think in one picture it shows a raccoon in the trap but it doesn't set the trap because it didn't go in it that far. Let's hope they are not trap smart!
