Keep in mind that we (people of Portland TN) dont go to Kentucky to avoid the tax but go because there is nothing in Portland to shop at, unless you count our 4 drug stores and 2 dollar stores.
Ain't that the truth? The state has too high of expectations of us if they think we are gonna drive 40 miles to Nashville or other cities to shop. Especially when gas prices are like they are!!!! H@#L NO, I WON'T GO!!!! It's not just us in Portland, there are plenty of people that scoot across the border from this whole area! Better strengthen the troops Bredesen. You're gonna need more than one area covered on the border!! Wait... is this TN or is this Mexico, I'm confused!!
We are in the Robertson county side but have a Portland address. That's something I've never understood, but I digress... Honestly it is bad enough when we in the first district are completely forgotten about up here. We pay a wheel tax, but I don't see any improvement on my roads. They would rather re-pave Main st. in Springfield 30 times than give us any attention up here.
I thought seriously about emailing Ch. 17, and voice my opinions there... but you know what that would do...put a big target on my back! They would probably seek me out, tell the roving tax collectors my license plate # and tell them to nail me to the wall!!! Since I am obviously, a pot stirrer and a labeled tax evader too
I'll check out the site and see what's what. Where exactly did you read that?
In the meantime... they don't stop these land barons like Larry Collins from taking over, do they? He keeps annexing Portland on out into Robertson county. The old addage is true, the deeper the pockets the more that gets done to your advantage. "But Larry is creating jobs" He can't do that...that only means that there will be more TN people shopping in Ky after they get off work of an evening."Oh yes, lets tax the crap out of these near poverty level citizens, but don't tell them what's really going on. Their just rednecks they wouldn't understand it anyway. Tell them they have to pay or else, they'll do it... they're dumb as rocks anyhow."

edited to add:I read up on the Hall tax, "The individual income tax is imposed only on individuals and other entities receiving interest from bonds and notes and dividends from stock."
That doesn't affect me, I don't think. This doesn't explain my income... my income is well....non existant at the time. Can you enlighten me further on it? Is there something I'm missing?
