Hey y’all, I need some advice.

Ever since my baby Drake matured, he’s been allll over the girls. He has 10 ladies in total. Unfortunately, my favorite girl is his favorite to harass and exclude, mainly because she won’t submit to him and runs away every time he tries to mount her.
I’ve had him separated all spring and summer this year so she could heal and grow in her new pretty feathers, but because our winters get so cold during February, I’m going to need him to rejoin the flock so he can have the option of the heat lamp at night.
I really need help figuring this dilemma between these two soon. I wish she didn’t run from him and I wish he wasn’t so h*rny all the time, but I guess that’s nature huh? 🥲😂

I feel your pain. In a similar situation with my runner ducks, I set up the most "romanced" girl in her own small dog house. Sheldon bred his favorite, Blair, so hard and so often that she regularly bled from the back of her head and nearly lost her right eye.

Spring over-mating this year lasted well into summer. I have recently allowed everybody to hang out together during the daytime as hormones have settled down. But it's still separate sleeping quarters for Blair's safety.

I don't know where you are located, but Blair spent last winter and will spend this winter sleeping alone in her private quarters. I don't use heat lamps and winter gets into the double-digits below zero here with plenty of wind. My ducks don't mind the cold at all and often leave their shelter to lie on the ground as it snows.

Best wishes with taking care of your girl!
