Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Sorry to hear about your goose, Lisa. Having sick/injured animals is so stressful when you can't make them better.

My Midnight Majesty Maran, Eleanor, was acting unwell in the coop and wouldn't roost. She was sleeping under the "poop hammock." I brought her indoors on Christmas; after losing my little Maxie, I wasn't going to let Eleanor die cold and hungry. The soonest I could get her to the vet was yesterday. First, I was snowed in here, and then Dr. M was out of the office.

Eleanor has frostbite and bumblefoot on both feet. She was also dehydrated and got IV fluids at the clinic. She came home with an antibiotic, pain med and burn ointment. I am supposed to soak her feet in Epsom salts and try to rewrap them later. Wish me luck. I will use the "taco" method and restrain her in a towel, but it would be much easier with two people.

My afternoon was dominated by driving to the vet clinic in another county, hanging out while Eleanor was treated and IV'd, and driving back home in the dark. But, I spent the morning taking down all the Christmas decorations. It's always a challenge to get the tree back into its box.

As 2022 ends, I want to say thanks to you on this thread -- especially Lisa, Jim and Anjanet -- for letting me join your conversations. I appreciate all of you and look forward to your posts.

Hey, Jim, how were those ribs?

I enjoy this small group also. My social life is
mostly on line. I don't drive any more so I don't
get to visit friends and relatives like I used to.
the ribs came out nice and tender. despite us not
knowing how to program the instant pot. it would
not stay turned on. we kept resetting the timer, but
it kept cancelling the time out. I will have to do some
research . I am sure we did something wrong.
I am not happy how the sauce turned out. It got very
runny and would not stick to the meat. it tasted good,
though.
today I am going to boil some potatoes in the sauce,
and then heat up some saurkraut. mix it all together and
see what we end up with..
my computer is acting up today. GS will be coming home
on Monday, he will fix it for me..

that is a hard combination to beat.
today is GS Kalib's birthday. 31. He has mostly
lived with us since he was in 3rd grade.
we are going to go to Lemon Grass for Chinese
tomorrow, to celebrate.
I like their curry beef or shrimp. there is always
enough for a take home container for the next day.
good bargain,
The Packers did us proud. Showed the
Vikings how it's done.

Jim, I always like restaurants that provide enough for "take home." Best wishes on the celebration!

It's possible that the ice storm MAY not be as bad as predicted. Precipitation has stopped for now, but taking the dogs out meant a treacherous trip down a glassy ramp. I ended up sticking my feet through the openings in the railing so I wouldn't slide all the way to the bottom. However, it COULD hit 38 today, so maybe it will be safe to use the ramp by tonight.

My Maran, Eleanor, is doing better. But her care involves quite a routine. She gets pain meds twice a day and an antibiotic once a day -- that's the easy part. She also gets twice a day foot baths in warm water and Epsom salt. Then, there's burn ointment to apply and a re-wrapping of her feet.

She seems to like the soaking. I plop her into a bowl of warm water that covers her feet, and she gladly stands in it for the full 5 minutes. However, as she gets stronger, she also objects to being wrapped like a taco so I can work on her feet. I believe she has regained all of her wing strength. And, her attitude.

Looked like our bad weather was headed east last night, so I hope all is well in Wisconsin.
