Lisa, I am so sorry about your donkey! My two lived with three sheep and many goats as their protector, so when Tommy died, Jerry still had companions. I hope yours finds some comfort from its ruminant friends.
I also hear you on running an old folks home. Every year, I lose some and swear I won't get more because it's too hard to see them go. Every year, I lie. I know that my kitty with a tumor is living out his last days, and it's so sad because he is the nicest boy.
So far, I am holding fast to the no-more-ruminants rule; I am down to one sheep and two goats. But, what will I do with all that pasture when they're all gone? I am much less successful on not acquiring more poultry; six new chicks last year.
We used to have aquariums but none of my fish lived as long as yours. My favorite was a cichlid who would pop the surface of the water when he wanted to be fed and, who unlike nearly all of the other fish, would "follow" me when I walked past the large tank. I was sad when he died, and sadder still that after he was buried in the backyard, something dug him up!
Jim, I have a great meat slicer I wish I could give to you. My Jim was a serious carnivore, but I haven't eaten meat in years and don't need the slicer to carve veggies.

Some day, I will get around to getting rid of it, I suppose. And, mountains of other unneeded stuff.
Warmer weather means melting drifts coupled with plenty of mud for the dogs to track in. Still, it's a great improvement over recent weather. Here's to hoping winter is at least thinking about packing her bags and leaving early!
