Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

33F today.
too cold to work outside so I am starting a batch of sauerkraut.
cabbage usually goes on sale right after StPatrick's day.
Annie bought 8 ea 2 1/2 Pound heads for me.. I have six of them cut up. taking a break.
I am using a food grade 5 gallon plastic pail. a friend told me that is what he always uses..
seems to be just the right size for 20 pounds of cabbage..
Now, I am going to take that break..

All the blackbirds returned and now there's nothing to eat because everything is frozen. They have been mobbing my feeders. I feel so bad for them. Usually there's bugs at least when they come back. This past year's weather is just nutty.

I ended up with about three gallons of sauerkraut in the 5 gallon pail. that was 21 pounds.
I probably could have added about
five pounds more.
as it is, there is plenty of head room so I should have no spill over
when it starts to work..
it made it up to 35F today.
from now on the temps should hold above 40F and higher..
of course I am not ruling out snow in April.. I have seen snow on
Mothers' day..

Lisa, looks like we posted at the same time.
Annie saw a pair of sandhill cranes close to out house. there was a robin in the lilac bush about a week ago.. I have not seen a red wing yet.
but I am not spending any time outside, and they don't come in the house.. lol
It seems like there are more cottontail rabbits .
