Dreaming of Spring Gardening in the Middle of a Wisconsin winter part 2

Since it's just me here nearly all the time, I can go years without needing to have the septic pumped out. My dad used to get irritated that the pumper back home convinced his lady friend -- who also lived alone -- that she needed to have hers cleaned out annually. So not true.

One of the highlights of the trip my sister and I take every year to northern Minnesota is a couple of sessions of Thai bodywork at a studio there. It stretches out muscles and other soft tissue, and can be combined with traditional massage. After 90 minutes of that, I can feel my right hip move more freely and with less pain -- which is pretty much a constant since the double pelvic fracture 10 years ago.

Our practitioner studied in Thailand, where he learned that Thai bodywork is therapeutic. He quickly learned that "Thai massage" is, let's just say, something totally different and probably illegal in some states.

I've never tried the Salonpas, but it sounds promising!

We got back from Minnesota late Tuesday afternoon. All the critters survived, which is the most important thing. But I totally freaked out. To say I am disappointed in the newest pet sitter would be an understatement. I have a laundry list (and, by the way, I spent much of yesterday doing vacation laundry) of complaints.

Chief among them is her lack of cleanliness. I scoop coops every day; she clearly did not. There were maggots in two. The cat boxes were overflowing with dirty litter and reeked. The microwave had something baked onto its carousel that had to be soaked and scraped.

Plus, she must have been forcing the coop doors to close. A bit swollen from all the rain, one split completely in half (half a door really isn't better than none) and the latch mechanism fell off another.

Today, I need to tackle yardwork. It looks like a jungle.

Barb, welcome back to your little piece of hell.
when the kids were little , we took a trip to Minn
had the neighbor boy take care of the chickens.
luckily they were free range . because he mistakenly for the chicken feed, used kitty litter .
we still laugh about that.
yesterday i went to Oreillys and bought a piece of hyd. hose , two barbed connectors and fourS hose clamps. I could have saved money by buying the hose clamps and connectors at Menards. but i was so grateful that i could buy just a piece of hose i gave Oreillys my business.
i put broccoli in the traps, then spotted chucky eating at the other side of the yard,. so far he hasn't bothered the tomatoes, so i don't have to shoot him.
we will play Elmer Fudd for awhile longer.
Saturday we are predicted to get over 2 inches of rain. 7am and no sun yet today. fog and 56F
have you noticed no bugs on the car windshield ?
i wonder if it is because of all of the smoke >?
the shot in the shoulder has kicked in,,,,,a little.
i think the medicine migrated over to my neck. my headaches seem to have subsided, i have a ct scan coming up next wednesday for my neck.
lots of arthritis back there. there is a surgery for it. i already refused that . she also agreed.
no surgery for my shoulder either.
i think a good masage about once a month would replace all the tylenol i take.
lots of underlined words. i am too lazy to hit the caps key. that has to be a big low for lazy . lol

I got up too early. haven't had my coffee yet .
yesterday i fixed the power steering hyd hose on the tractor. nice to have it working again.
have a bumper crop of lettuce. there is no way we can eat that much. it is very good tasting. usually home grown lettuce has no flavor. I graze while I am watering. lol
eye dr called me to make an unscheduled appt. today at 9 am I will see her. no idea of what she has in mind.
blackberries are going wild. Annie is picking some each day. we want to accumulate 2o pounds for a batch of wine
almost there.
elderberries will be next. might be a smaller batch, we can no longer get at the wild patches like we once did.
we used to have a nice grove of choke cherries that we robbed, too.
a friend sent me a recipe for homade ice cream made without a freezer. it costs about twice as much as what you can buy ice cream in the store. the heavy cream equals the cost of a good ready made ice cream. i might try it at least once.
