How can a Rooster get this Big an continúe to walk? Do You have pics of him whe he was alive?

I think he's around 6 months old in this picture because shortly thereafter I had to take those girls away from him, he was ripping them up. He was actually a really nice rooster, just too big, heavy and clumsy to use for breeding. He got around fairly well, I imagine those humongous legs helped, lol. I didn't really want to butcher him, but he's been taking up one of my breeding pens since last year and I need it.

He sure a monster. I am hoping my meat bird project get to 4-6lbs around 12-16 weeks. If not, I have no choice but cross with Cornish X.

He was a big handsome fellow. 19 lbs would be a lot for a hen to handle, tho. Did you get any fertile eggs that you hatched from the early breeding?

Unfortunately not, it seemed that due to his bulk he couldn't flex enough to hit the target. But really I don't want to perpetuate that kind of size in my meat birds anyway, it just causes too many issues. After working for the past 5 years to size our meat mutts up, I'm now breeding toward taking them back down few pounds so they will forage better and breed more reliably again.

This is awesome. Might I suggest adding tags to the thread to show where specific things are. Like "chicken breed x page #"?

Those are some meaty mutts.

Yeah, I think they turned out pretty nice. I was surprised they were ready to go at 11 weeks, we usually don't process our birds until 14 weeks. I was feeding the other birds game bird food because they were molting, and thought I might as well feed these grow outs that as well. I've never done that before because the game bird feed is more expensive, but if they finish three weeks earlier, it will actually be a lot cheaper!
But they are also the first batch by the new cockerel I kept, so I guess it could be due to him as well. Time will tell - hopefully.
