oh wow, many people sharing photos now. After nursery season slows down (thats July 15 to Sept 15 at a production nursery when we take cuttings) I am going spend some of those cold wet fall and winter days digging out carcass photos and sharing them.

Why is the one on the right darker?

Left 6 weeks 114 grams (caged by himself always)
Right 11 weeks 175 grams (caged with a female always)

I am not sure but I am guessing because it is older.

thats what I guessed too, as meat gets older it loses color. Still good to eat though.

Thought since it was with a hen it was a hormonal thing.

I will be sure to cage some of my newest hatch in certain ways to see if it does indeed change the meat color.

thats what I guessed too, as meat gets older it loses color. Still good to eat though.

The older one was almost twice as old and it was the darker looking one.

oh wow, I got it backwards! the lighter one for some reason looks older to me. If the age of the carcass is the reason for a different color I learned something!

This was the first time I processed different ages together so this was the first time I've ever seen this.

I'll be keeping track for the future.
I am going to hold back some of my next processing batch to age them until the next batch is ready to be processed to see if this happens again.
