Drinking nipples for quail.

I wish to utilize horizontal drinking nipples for my jumbo coturnix. This being a half-cooked notion, I looked around the interwebs and found a cheap bag of no-name, plastic threaded ones. These seem way, way too tight for my quail to use. I could see chickens using them, but… nah, not quail. So, apparently I need to take the ratchet straps off my wallet if I really wanna do this. Is there a trusted name brand that y’all use with quail that I might look for?

If you buy the cheapest ones you will be wasting money. Get the Rentacoop ones. They are worth the couple extra dollars.

The Rent a Coop brand are so much of an improvement that if you didn’t already know, I couldn’t describe it to you.
Slapped a couple on a bucket and introduced the 3-4 wk olds to the notion last night. Seems a little awkward, but they’re getting the hang of it. Playing around with how to outfit cages… I think I’m gonna try the simplest approach I could conjure, at least for now.
A 1/2” hole will barely fit 1/2” tube, won’t let it expand; allows the nipple threads to dig in. So I’ll be securing a “drinking face” to the cage wall and just running a line straight to it from the bucket.

Ok, I have 3 cages now running these. Indoor cages with pans underneath. The rabbit bottles were not gonna work all summer, they leaked so much I had to put paper towels under them and change pans twice a week since I went back to them after winter. These horizontal nipples are a godsend. As I hatch this year, I’ll have two more cages indoors that will use this, and then at least 2 outdoor grow out pens. This is a game changer in terms of time spent dealing with their water every day. Now I’m seriously pondering setting up a circuitulory system with water heater for my over-winter breeder cages. THANK YOU!!
