Why do people think dropping their dogs off is such a
great ideal? Why?

Someone gifted us with a nice, well mannered male black
lab mix two weeks ago. Didn't even chase the chickens...looked
at them a few times, but didn't eat them. Didn't bother the cats.

Pretty good dog.

But I already had the two dogs I wanted.

So we advertised this dog for two weeks, on the radio, in the newspaper
and even posted his picture in the post office.

No one claimed him.

Pound bound.

But at least we have a no-kill shelter to send him to.

Way to nice a dog to put down. Thought about keeping it, but the dog wouldn't
exactly get along with Jake, who is my dog.

But people...PLEASE don't simply drop your dogs off. Do the right thing. Find them
a good home.

We had 11 dogs at one time outside. 2 of them were ours, the rest all drop offs. Some of them we had 2 years before we found suitable homes.
Every cat we have ever owned has been a drop off, once pregnant Mama and the Papa.

People throw out chickens at my house, I am not joking.

I have had an full grown Emu left as a gift.

They dont want to be the one's to take them to the shelter and have them put down. And most of our shelter's require money to leave a pet.

It is so bad that one of our livestock sale barns requires a $100.00 deposit per horse before you can unload your trailer because folks cant feed their horses and they know nobody will buy them,

My friends brother and ex wife did this several times. They'd buy a dog, like him/her for a while, dropped the pooch off to the pound when they were tired/bored of taking care of it. A few months later they brought home a new puppy and did the same thing. They did this 3 times that I know of. Some people don't realize that dogs/cats are not disposable. I had an old neighbor cull a perfectly healthy cat because they were "tired" of taking care of it. She was the sweetest cat and never offered me to bring her home. Some people actions towards animals are so ruthless, it makes me sick!

We adopted our cats and one dog from the humane society. We will continue to do so when we are ready to adopt in the future.

They should realize that if they take it to the shelter, it's more likely to get a home, & not dumped again. 6 of my 7 dogs came from the shelter. I'm in the process of trying to get another "unwanted" dog, as we speak, while making arrangements to have our tired old man, "Bug" the Boston Terrier, put down. He's been with us for 14 years. He is blind from Glaucoma, has 2 twisted knees, & lost control of his bathroom holding abilities. He is ready to go, I think.

I have had people drop rabbits off in my yard.....it really ticks me off! Luckily I find pet homes for most of them if they are friendly. If they are aggresive or sick I am the one who has to cull them which makes me sad.....why can't people man up and do the right thing themselves!!!!!

Yea, I know how you feel. Last year a dog and 2 kittens. We kept them. This year so far a momma cat with 3 kittens in June, and a momma cat with 2 kittens end of July. Saw a pregnant stray yesterday??? No luck giving them away The pound charges $5. ea. to take them. I can't afford that. I won't watch them starve. All are somewhat feral, trap saavy. Sheriffs dept says if you feed them they are yours. What is the answer???? We did have to shoot a feral Tom that was fighting our cat. We hate that....Its not the cats fault.
