Drowning sparrows??

Quote:
I don't want to completely eradicate them or stop them. I just want to have less of them mooching throughout the winter. A couple dozen sparrows eat and waste a lot of food. They carry layer pellets up on top of the coop roofs and leave a mess of crumbs up there which attracts mice and rats (ew). I just want to thin the population. I'll leave a few for the Sharp Shinned Hawks

We do our best as well to keep the numbers down, they do eat a lot, I call them sky rats.

In my youth, we called them "Suplemental cat food" ...... I figured God put them there to sharpen my marksmanship skills and give the barn cats the energy they needed to compensate for January cold snaps........

I pound on the shed and my husband fires the shotgun, inefficient, but somehow satisfying

I didn't add that at this time of year the sparrows are nothing compared to the ever growing hoards of starlings, now those I hate.
