Drunk Looking Pullet

Thank you for inquiring Three of them seem to be doing well but my Brahma has started hopping on one foot. She could have an injury or it could be the beginning of Marek's related lameness. I'm giving her meloxicam for inflammation & pain. The avian vet believes that none of pullets were vaccinated despite paying extra for it. Really hoping the remaining girls pull thru. I see the avian vet more than I see my husband lately, lol

Wow, I would be quite mad! Seems like for chickens, what doesn’t kill them makes them stronger, so try to keep the faith.

I took her to the avian vet this morning and she has mareks. I had a chick that almost had what looked like FTT back in March/early April. I had nursed her along for several weeks and finally euthanized and had her sent for a necropsy. Unfortunately, the report was not sent to the vet until this week and showed Mareks. There were no other issues until the Cream Legbar today. ALL WERE VACCINATED.

The Vaccine does not prevent birds from becoming symptomatic or from having an infection from the virus. The vaccine may help prevent the formation of tumors. Bottom line, vaccinated birds can certainly end up sick, have issues with balance, etc. etc. This site is loaded with threads of sick birds that have been vaccinated.

Do the best you can. Treat symptoms. Vitamin therapy and see that they are eating a good all flock feed. Keep on top of parasites both externally and internally. Hopefully she will come around.

Thank you for the advice. She ended up passing as did the three others out of the seven. I now have a fifth that is exhibiting the beginning stages of lameness. Everybody is on vitamins, Scratch & Peck crumbles, fresh produce from the garden, a couple hours daily free ranging and supplemental fermented feed. Hoping to save the last two. The vet felt that they weren't vaccinated because the necropsied pullet had tumors and losing probably 5 out of 7 seemed like a high number.

I do appreciate the guidance since I've been out of my depth
