DS's Punishment

Wow, I think people are really going overboard on the punishment. He is 13, he did wrong. Punish him yes, sell the 4 wheeler no. Just keep an eye on the empathy issue, make sure he is not mean to animals. He probably just got caught up in the moment and did not mean to hurt the animals, give him another chance, but keep your eyes on him around animals from now on.

I have been following along, and not commented, and wondered where the kid got the 4-wheeler. Not a typical toy!!! I suppose that since he paid for it, yet misused it, he can keep it, but I would say he should have restrictions on it for a long time to come.

Now, I get that he is kid. My next story leans towards the extreme that could happen if he is not properly chastised for doing something so harmful:

22 year old dad, out 4 wheelin - 13 month old child strapped to the back of the quad. Idiot tried to cross the river. He did not suceed. Him and his buddy stood there wondering what the hell to do as his child drown. The child was still in the car seat, dead, when they pulled the quad out of the water.

Quads and responsibility go hand in hand. You sound like a GREAT parent.... Maybe telling this story tonight will help your child realize the ramifications of not paying attention.

This story is true and happened last night.

Oh how sad (and stupid). My heart breaks for that little ones mama.

If it happened at my house I'd see how the kid liked being chased by me on the 4wheeler

I just got my laugh for the day on that mental pic! "Yahoooooooooooo - run boy run" LOL

I cant believe some things I here. kid was wrong and needs some discipline but he is a kid.
I like my birds alot and dont want them hurt, but some are putting those birds above the boy , and I just dont believe
in animal worship above my children.

We are not recommending that she beat the boy senseless.

He DOES need to learn at a young age to be sensitive and caring to animals though. At 13 he is old enough to know that chasing and tormenting animals is wrong. Now, he is a 13 year old boy and their brains turn off sometimes. That just happens. But mom does need to craft a punishment that reminds the boy that this behaviour is unacceptable. Trust me. If he has to clean up after the turkeys for a while, he will remember the loss of his free time and his aching back the next time he is tempted to freak the animals.

The lack of appropriate discipline is why I get 18-24 year old students with no sense of personal responsibility and no concept of negative repercussions for bad behaviour.

(just kidding)

I know right? I mean, seriously, what punishment is worth anything if it doesnt draw blood and make them scream? I mean seriously!

If he has had access to a four wheeler in the past more than likely this is not the first time it's happened. Losing the ATV for a week will make no impact, 90 days might. He probably is feeling bad, but bad that he got caught not that he was doing something bad. If it were Steven he would lose his privilege for 90 days and be required to care for and clean up after the animals he was tormenting in an effort to make him see that what he was doing was wrong and cruel and not acceptable.
