Dubbing OEG combs/ wattles?

I keep fresh straw in cages and in and around any barrels the bits are in. I take every precaution i can. I have used wide perches as long as I've had these birds. Never had a problem befor.

Where birds in poor feather or molt when cod snap hit? Something that sets problem of for me is when a freezing rain is followed by extreme cold and wind. I think most frost bite actually hits them during the day when they have feet and comb more exposed. While sleeping they keep wattles and feet at least under feathers. My roosts are round or otherwise setup so birds can wrap thier toes around it. I have seen not reason to suspect a flat roost protects against frostbite. Having the birds in poor nutrition can also set them up for problems.

I feed a 16 percent game blend no problems with weight loss or slow growth with younger birds. The cold did hit kind of quick went from low to mid 40s to mid 20s just about overnight. They were done with molt, but i am seeing some new feathers in the necks of most of them.

The first one i dubbed about a week ago was emergency tips of comb were black comb had a blue line that was getting close to his head, and his wats were blue also. He is fine now scabs should come off any day now

Usually temperatures dropping down below 10 F required to cause frost bite for me and my birds roost basically under stars. My birds under go a big change when comes to staying warm near the end molt. Neck and body featherss still in blood do not make a for a tight seal to keep in warmth. If they still have pinfeathers then they may still be a little touchy with the cold.

I am also dealing with a little frostbite causing loss of points on birds I do not want to dub. That occured with first cold snap taking place almost a month ago. With all else being equal, the birds must also be able to adapt through exposure and sometimes that is not fast enough early in season.

Got ice in the trees, still raining babys all seam ok this morning. One of my dub jobs looks a little rough, but he will be ok. I put him on a barrel with the rain he looks a bit slimey. This rain is supposed to stop soon, temps r going to b dropping though. Just out of curiosity where

I am in the middle of Missouri. We are having similar weather. When this weather breaks I will dub some as well but will not be able to tie them out to barrels. That means they will have to be fed and watered inside pens to keep from messing up healing process.
