YEAH! It's all a learning experience! I talked to SO manny people today and talked to them about how they fit their chickens. 'Chicken People' are so much nicer then 'horse people' haha!

I am glad you started this thread as well, I have some D'uccle Mille Fleurs and I had some Porcelains which were killed recently by a hawk! I will be selling some hatching eggs for the Mille Fleurs this spring. I have some very stunning birds. If you would be interested in some hatching eggs this spring, please PM me and I will let you know when I have them available. I hope to replace my porcelain hens in the meantime, and I have taken measures to foil the hawk attacks.

So im still trying to figure out what to do for breeding pens. Does anyone have any good plans/ideas for a small pen that will hold 3-2 D'uccles, and not ruin their foot feathering?

We'vegotchickens placed this plan for pens etc for me on another link, here is the address to the BYC page 5th topic down. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=326626&p=27

Hope
it works out for you, I like the way that the birds are in "flocks" breeding with the group of top hens and roo. Just a suggestion. Right now I have utilized dog "kennels" and the large crate is the perfect size for a pair of birds, use perch, add a nest basket or card board box with side cage mounted feed and water dishes. You can stack them or line a table with them and then easy to reach in and clean.

ps-nice birds Celtic

Thanks! I really want to keep each trio in their own building/coop... Walk-in coops creep me out! haha, idk why! Im going to designate my old pigeon coop for my show birds so i can put about 6 inches of shavings to keep their foot feathering! No more cut off feathers!

How long should i keep my new pullet separate? I have them in my horse trailer right now, my show birds. And she is on the shelf where the hay goes in a plastic dog crate. I was going to keep her separate for for a week and then put them together, as long as she dosn't show any signs of anything.

Yes, technically you should keep a new bird separated for 30 days. But when we are dealing with show birds, more then likely they have been exposed to what ever is going around, including our own coops, walking and bringing grain bags in. Mice etc will carry disease. But for Biosecurity with birds, 3 weeks or month.

I would put her in the cage she is in when you want to introduce her and then she can't be pecked at, chased etc, all those mean things they do (its natural, but I still hate the pecking order) and once they get used to her, she can be let free and mingle with less trauma.

Broken foot feathers are common with the D'uccle, I let my girls spend time outdoors and in the grass, dirt and fun, their feathers looked like stubs! Now they are inside with a 2x4 perch, the feathers are beginning to come back nicely.
