My building has 2 normal size walk in (one at each end, north and south) doors w access to outside runs (like a kennel kinda) plus we have a full ventalation ((SP)) system. It's heated and cooled, but most of the time I open the vents and screen doors in winter and use the lights, then close it up during night. When we are in the single digits, vents/fans are all I use. There is always circulation of some kind going. I dont use it dueing summer months except for my birds who cant handle heat. Rest of year it sits

"I bought a white pair at the OH Nationals. The pullet isn't laying yet, but I have big plans for her in the spring!! Will be hatching as many white babes as I can."

Wow Lori, I'd love to have some new bloodlines for my white program

. I'm also currently working on a white faverolle project and barred as well. I like the whites and pearls. Are you interested in a 'test-breeding' partner?? No problem if not...just an idea.

I cant immagine how much fun it is to wash the whites before a show. My brother has a red pyle that he uses for showmanship and i thought it would be wise to use bluing shampoo for livestock to wash her...well i turned his showmanship bird blue

I'm always looking for another enabler.... er... I mean, partner in crime.
The roo is GORGEOUS. The pullet is a little thin on the middle toe feathering but otherwise she's a doll.

I was just bragging that I was going to get some awesome lav eggs from you to add into the results of my lav split babes....
I'd arrange a trade, but these are d'Uccles in winter so there's no telling when I'll have any 'white' eggs! (May? lol. Sheesh I sure hope not!) I don't heat their coop or add light.

S|C.H., that is exactly why I never planned on having any white birds. But they were soooooo pretty....
I'll soon know what sunlight and sand runs do to those pretty white foot feathers.
And I think with bluing the idea is to use as little as possible? I don't know, as I've only washed injured birds or birds I was dying (don't ask). I never ever wash my showbirds. They just play in dew-soaked grass before I load them up, to wipe the worst of the yuck off their feet.

Partner in crime, love it! haha. I know what you mean by white/color/sun, ect. I've found that as long as my white birds are provided with heavy shade during warmer months, they tend to stay white. Some have a few (very few) sunbleach spots. When it does happen, it's on only a feather or 3. I use soybean in place of 'corn' as well, so that also helps white to stay WHITE. Would love to talk more about your pair and see pics. Would also work out a trade on any of my project or pure pens for eggs. Just let me know what you'd like to have

Come spring, I will definitely be interested in playing with project birds. I may accidently end up with lavender mottleds from my lav splits. That definitely comes up in some of the Henk trials.

The only way I will have barred birds is by accident. And then I will sell/give them away. I have a chilhood grudge against anything resembling the Domineckers that tormented my NH Red sweetheart birds (the first chicks I ever raised to adulthood, despite the vicious Domineckers a neighbor gave us).

I don't think feedstores in TN have every heard of soy-based feeds

Something to look into, though....

Will get some decent pics of the whites. They've been in quarrantine and aren't looking their best due to wire cages. They get to 'mingle' this weekend, though.

Not worried about ware-n-tare of a cage

I know what it does to them. Same with my freerange birds during summer...would just like to see them

As far as barreds go, I have cochins in that color, LF Doms from my grandpas 1940 lines, so they dont bother me. Plus I have bantam dominiques, lol.
Would love to work with anyone who has the same dicipline, goals and ethics I do.

Doug, A.C & Aubrey, I got some of the first lemon eggs this past weekend so I'm excited/pumped, but will wait to set the first batch till next week. Keep your entire body crossed that I hatch some nice, true lemon chicks!

I think we match pretty well on that last bit. It can be a hard road to walk down, but I think the reward is greater.

Will get some new pics of the newbies.
