I have a question for u, i wants some chicks soon,so would u use a incubator for chicks or would u leave the hens to do it naturally, and if so do i need to by a seperate pen for the hen /chicks, because my hubby seems to think that i should leave the hen and eggs with the other 3 hens and cock? Im new to the chicken Business so i will be asking alot of questions

Everyone has to ask questions sometime. If your hens are broody then they can hatch eggs. If not you would have to use an incubator. If the hens hatches the eggs you can put her back with the flock. If you hatch them with an incubator you will have to make them a brooder and introduce them to the flock when they are older.

Make sure you have a broody. Hens won't just sit on the eggs anytime of day for 3 weeks

I don't know if my cockerel has done his dirty yet. How can I tell if he has?

And will the hen sit on the first egg for ages or will she come off and wonder round? Or will she sit the 1st egg until she has a full clan?

The next time your hen lays an eggs crack it open and look for a "bullseye". There are some pics on BYC. Just search fertile eggs

If you have a broody they will get up for around a half and hour each day. Which is normal.
