My nest boxes are all hand made out of 2 x 4 treated (I know cheap

) and set about a foot off ground. My pens will allow me to have 5, one foot x one ft "open" nests that are 4in deep. I do not cover any of them. It seems to ME coop stays cleaner that way and birds dont dirty nests/eggs as bad as if they have boxes on ground. Again, just ME.

*NOTE* I forgot to add 3-4 girls can CRAM their butts into each box, so.....As far as roosts go, my pens are 7ft tall inside and I give them 5ft ladders that are about 3ft wide for roosts.
I use a little old shoe rack for my babies though

Nope, nothing. We tried everything and the would always make a nest in the opposite corner. I gave up. We keep the coops clean, so a nest box doesn't really make a difference for them.

They're such tiny birds...I thought maybe they'd only need a 6" x 6" nest box. . . maybe an 8 x 8 would work better. I only have a couple and might add one more. I thought a 1 x 2 would work for a roosting bar. I have a door cut out thats 8" wide by 10" tall for them to enter the coop.

We have one nest box on the floor and one that is mounted about a foot off the ground.
They don't use the one off the ground except 1. The others use the one on the floor.
There is one hen that will roll all the eggs in the box out so she can have here egg.

Mine love their nest boxes. They have a roost about 2' off the floor, and the nest boxes are about 8" above that, and have a top so that the birds can pile on top of the nest boxes if they want. The boxes are open in front except for about a 3" lip, each box 1'x1'x1 with a slightly larger top. They will lay on the floor if I've taken the boxes out (I do that to break broodies when I need to) but go right back to laying in the boxes once they're back in place. Each coop has a set of boxes with 2 openings.
