D'uccle Thread

One of these days I will own some Porcelains! I have never had this breed but adore the color variety and have a friend that says she loves her MFs. If I ever get the chance to purchase them I am going to go ahead and get me some pets!

There will be more d'Uccles than I've seen at any show before, excluding the OH Nationals.
There are only 4 d'Uccle exhibitors.

The one showing the most birds is Ron Tallent

He has blues, black, whites, LOTS of millies, black mottleds, porcelains. Yes, I know: I'll take LOTS of pics!!!
I'm hoping he'll be patient with little n00bie me and let me ask lots of questions!!

DH was planning on only bringing the show birds home. When I saw who I was up against, I said, "If he has birds for sale...."
And DH said, "We're coming home with some. I know."

I'm let them settle in and rest tonight. I'll polish them up a little in the morning.

It's gonna be a looooooooong night!

He's soooo handsome! Love that boy!

Hey, when do you see your D'Uccle roosters starting to crow? Beau is 9, going on 10, weeks old and nothing yet. Keep waiting for that first squeaky crow from him.

Thanks Cynthia, I couldn't love him more!

Little Rooster Man started crowing at about 10 weeks. A bantam trying to crow is sooo cute! Rooster Man couldn't get the last part of the "doodle doo" out for a couple weeks, he strained so hard but it always sounded like he was whispering the last part!

Anyway, I'd expect Beau to start belting it out any day now! I'm so glad you're getting into bantams, they're great aren't they? Mine (various breeds) are all gentle and great egg layers! Oh yeah they're also broody broody broody!

I have d'Uccles for sale!

Ok folks, I'm still stuck on the nest box thing. I have a cat litter pail that is 9.5 x 12" and 15" deep. Will this do for two hens and if yes, then should I lay it 12" wide or 9.5" wide? Thanks

Oh, I wish you were closer!!! I just drove 35 miles each way to get porcelain d'uccle eggs because I couldn't find mille fleurs! But I'm pleased with what I saw, especially when I saw the rooster and hens out in the yard. What beautiful birds! I'm so excited to be hatching some out.

Greetings all, I've been lurking in the side lines. Had a couple super weather days and lots of shuffling birds and letting some loose for a while to stretch their legs.
D'uccle's are doing super, looking healthy and happy (which is all I can ask), have been leaving eggs in nest box at this point cause the rooster had a run in with the "egg retrieval system", ha ha! Due to getting in and out of pen without the Cochin roo being a big shot, DH took a dowel around 4' long, duct taped a stirring plastic cooking spoon on the end. Reach in under the net, scoop one egg at a time and the girls just watch their "offspring" going away. (those D's are so cute and vocal as the 'UFO' enters and leaves)
Anyhow, spring is in the air, should have babies this week- send good thoughts!

Be well and good to see newer people in here with D's!
