D'uccle Thread

I have a Lav roo over Mille Fluer and Blue Mille fluer and I have some really different chicks that are growing up.
Some are just plain black or blue as expected, some with gold leakage, then I have the special children.
2 are either barred or cookoo. One is brown? And one is a blue or lav with a mahogany chest.
I will try to get pictures up.

We will see how they grow out.

OH!!! yes please pictures! I'll be very anxious to see them. Just hatched another chick from this trio and it's another dark one. I don't think it's black, but it's darker looking.
When you said some the chicks were "blue," did you mean the regular self-blue or are they actual Blue d'Uccle? You know the Andalusian thing.

Congrats on your babies! My broody hens just hatched another dozen chicks this week, so I'm up to my neck in 'chickens too young to lay eggs'. 50% is still pretty good for a first time hatch! They are such sweeties. They're a bit wilder when mama raises them I've noticed. They are porcelain, and the few mille fleur are out of a porcelain rooster and mille fleur hens. They will look just like mille fleur when grown, maybe with a bit lighter base color.

They are Andalusian blue not Self Blue (Lavender).

This is one of the offspring of the Self Blue (Lav) over Mille Fluer or Blue Mille Fluer.
We ended up with two like him, and both are roo's.
The picture was taken May 14 so now they are a lot more developed and as you can see they have a definate pattern that was not expected.

I will see if I can get some newer pictures of them as well as the other odd balls that came out. I suspect that it may have to do with the one Roo we had most of his chicks were upside down in the eggs we noticed and had to assist some out due to that.

Now to figure what made two of them that way.

Isn't funny how the weird colors seem to consistently be cockerels?
It makes me think there's something linked to gender that we're zeroing in on.

Sadly, I hatched a LOT more cockerels than pullets, so I've had to thin constantly. I'm keeping one cockerel of each color variation, always going for the best type. I only have one pullet with unique colors, and she was almost a fail-to-thrive. Wierd...

Yep...I had one, called it "Birchen" thought it was a pullet...turned out to be a slow cockerel!

Doug, the pattern is interesting, do you know what it is? At the stage of growth in the picture, I would have been watching for them to be barred. Whatever he is, he's very pretty. The upside down eggs, is an interesting anomaly also, I've had several of those myself, also chicks dead in the shell.
Regarding the breeding between the Self-blue and the Mille Fleur, was the hen's phenotype Black or Blue (Andalusian) based? I'm assuming from what you said, if she's a Black, she's at least split to Blue. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Did I mention I hatched another chick yesterday?? and it's also black. This is going to be SOOOOOO interesting to watch them grow up.
