D'uccle Thread

one. your right, its not an injury...ALSO the leg isn't just lame...if it was a lame leg - you'd see limping or staggering from them standing on one leg and trying to use a bum leg but failing to use it properly (I have one right now that messed up her leg - EE - and walks some with a bad limp them staggers because the foot folds on her.) - Two. the face and eye is swollen...so there is something besides an issue with the leg thats wrong.

about the breeder, you've had them over a month maybe many months then no its nothing from the breeder - honestly with the multiple symptoms it looks likes its a disease or illness that had to be picked up on your property. true the line of birds may have weak immune systems/immunity to whatever protozoas and bacterias that are present in your soil or in your birds that your birds are resistant to, but the 2 d'uccles that something is wrong - just arent.

I honestly hate to say it, but with the weak inability to stand properly maybe paralysis in the legs, one wing is drooped a lot, the pale swollen face/eye ....those are all symptoms of mareks.

do you some serious research, but its definately something serious. good luck.

On a lighter note..

I have my first chick from my first d'Uccle gang. None of the pullets seemed interested in brooding, so I stuck d'Uccle eggs under a broody bantam cochin hen. Afte a week or so, I gathered the eggs, candled them and put the fertile ones in a incubator.

I'm now mightily encouraged!

Also, I still have Teddi's gang (her eggs) coming along. They just got their nesting box in their pen. They get special quarters, separate fron the hatchery d'Uccles

After trying out the various varieties of d'Uccles (white, mille fleur, self blue & porcelain), I think I'm going to concentrate on the porcelains

They really seem to be the friendliest and least flighty of the colors I have had

He appears to be a GN ... Looks like a sweet guy.

LilCrow, there are buff mottleds in the USA, I've raised them and another friend of mine has some as well. Theres a distinct difference between them and GN's

Hello everyone I have Mille that I hatched from Teddi's eggs, which has more white then black, I thought I'd wait to see what he looks like after molt. By while at our county fair most of the Mille's appeared to have more white then black and even one of those won. So now I'm confused about how they should be. Can someone explain please here is a pic

here are a few photos of my 'boys', they are brothers and are free range (hens are with their daddy in a breeding coop). they are almost 2 years old now. very very friendly, and love attention, easy to catch and pick up - blowing that 'mean bantam' stereotype out of the water. I wanted to enter the first pic in the calendar contest but my sister said the background was too much 'Sanford and Son'....they have both gotten through their moults of their nice tail feathers.

one in front is 'Teapot', in back is 'Goofball';
