D'uccle Thread

for breeding - #1 ... Better beard/muffs, smaller less noticeable wattles, less white on him than #2

#2 I'd consider a booted bantam - not a d'uccle because of those wattles...I would not breed him for trying to get d'uccles - also too much white, litter beard or muffs...

As for Grandpa Bundle... I would definately show him! Looks to have decent carriage, though he isn't posing correctly in the picture...Nice white ticking on the hackles, chest, saddles, and tail. (that nice white ticking on the tail is missing from alot of boys I see pictures of) Nice small barely there wattles, beard and muffs are there, good comb... How are his hocks? does he have nice noticeable vulture hocks? How are his feet? If his feet feathers are really broken and messed up - wait till he molts then put him on soft deep litter bedding to show prep him.

By the way...LOVE Bundle!

I know they are not my birds but thank you for critiquing them! I learn so much by reading and looking at the photos. With so little out there to learn from this thread can teach us so much!
Thank you again!

Very nice bunch! I agree with Wegotchickens - very young bunch, and VERY promising breeding group! They have great markings, don't see many if any solid white/black feathers which is exactly what you want - the black and white chevrons. So great coloring, really nice feet, great faces (Gotta love them d'uccle faces - such clowns

) look like they have nice body lines (type/carriage) - make sure to update us in a month or two as they fill out!

Ok, do these birds bleed if their foot feathers come off? My son brought our porcelain inside and she had a bloody foot feathers but no cuts. She does have a missing foot feather though I believe because she has a stumpy looking finger like thing. What should I do for her?

yeah if they manage to pull the feather out, or more likely break a blood feather they will bleed, and it will bleed pretty well. Take and clean the foot really well with warm soapy water. if you have any blu-kote or antiseptic spray I would definately spray that on the area. If it were still bleeding I would suggest packing it with flour or something to stop the bleeding, but it doesn't look like its bleeding in the picture and I'm an hour late. lol

I had a rooster with this problem last week. I washed his feet with soapy water, then added a styptic pen which didn't do a darn, I should have used starch, then held a papertowel on it for 5 minutes and by then it finally had a clot so it would quit oozing.

yup, starch, blood stop powder, flour, even the soft soap from the bottom of a bar of nonscented (like Dove) soap are really good to stop up a blood feathers or a feather hole to get it to clot. With the feet its a waste of time to try to bandage or apply ointment as it will just gunk up the foot with dirt, and or they'll hate it and flick and peck at their feet till they get it off. I just use spray, or if its bad enough to need ointment I keep them inside in a crate on a towel so they can't get dirt or shavings stuck to the wet ointmented foot

all 5 were born the same day and are just about 4 months old. Gotta love those faces! They remind me of little gnomes. They are starting to 'playmate' a lot lately .. definitely will update later!
