D'uccle Thread

If I were you, I would try and get a hold of some better quality stock, I know they are hard to find though. I would like to see the pics. of the actual adults they are breeding out in the hatheries. It's all about who lays the most number of eggs I'm sure. As long as the chicks look like d'uccles, they keep their customers happy. It's what the chicks develop into after a few months that is disappointing. It's too bad because they are flooding the market with sub-par birds.

The SOP says that "booted and d'uccle bantams came to this country in the Mille Fleur variety from Germany but were also very popular in Belgium and England". Wish they were still that popular here in the U.S. 90% of the ones here are nothing close to what the breed really should be. I've had people drive over an hour and a half to come pick up babies because they are so hard to find here in FL. Most people want chickens for their eggs and the d'uccles aren't bred for that reason. Hopefully the economy will get better and people will begin to appreciate this ornamental breed.

Another thing, it seems like some people go through phases where they get interested in the breed for a bit, then switch to something else

Keep it up my fellow D'uccle enthusiasts!

I will keep it up for as long as I am allowed to own chickens!
I was really wishing one of us had the $$ to import some stock from Australia or Europe!!! Seeing some of the pictures of their d'uccles makes me have something to strive for!

I am NO expert, but I think he's nice, actually rather handsome. I just can't wait to see what mine will turn out to look like...even if at 6wks mines trying to crow in the house, but it sounds more like a high pitched cat screaming...really it will make the hair on your neck stand up!!!!!

beard looks nice and full but the legs need heavyer feathering on them. if you use him for breeding i would use great looking hens with heavyer feet feathering then take the best looking roo and breed him back to the hens...someone can correct me if i am off on that

Here's my little hen cashew. This is from last spring. The pic was taken when she was recovering from crookneck. She's almost a year old now.
