D'uccle Thread

Here are my two 8 week old d'uccle pullets. These pics are from a little less than a week ago and they have more feathers and spangles. They look almost exactly alike, but Hurley is a little bigger and a darker red than Piper. They are little dolls and go limp when I pick them up

I don't know how good they are development wise, but I hope they will turn out to be show quality because I would love to show them! What so you guys think?

They look like they're getting some good foot feathers for that young but hard to tell now if they're SQ. I hope u get what u want. Keep posting pics though:) My 3 pullets are just a couple weeks older than yours so they have started filling in with nice spangles

I see naked middle toes right now. Lets hope they fill in!
Feathers on the middle toes are a big deal when showing. Otherwise they are adorable!

Make sure you give them a little extra protein to help with the extra feathers!

I have all featherfeet, so I buy gamebird feed or flockraiser. It's a little higher in protein. I give manna pro as a treat.

As an extra special treat I give a homemade suet/oatmeal blend, mixed with meat scraps from the house. They LOVE it!!

They also get to free-range from time to time for bugs. I don't buy them any of those...

I do not give catfood or tuna. Too many additives in one, too much mercury in the other.

I have my youngest group in a hutch and I have not given them any extra protein, they are on layer crumble in fact, and their feet feathers are good. I think a lot has to due with genetics, and probably she would have feathers down the middle toe by now.

I don't think loading her up on protein will cause them to "sprout".

Here's a pic of the pullet's feet from the group, it's not a great pic but just to give you an idea of how it should look like since they are about the same age.

Good to have you back.

...Looks like it's going to be a nice day, so I'll try to get those pics posted early this afternoon. 2 Roos I decided to keep from my blue program. How are your lemons & silvers coming along? Would love to hear how your program is doing.

Here are 2 of the boys I decided to keep for my blue program and project. They are now 9mos old. I know their combs need work, but the over all "quality & Type" is what I was shooting for

Combs (4Me) are an easy fix. As you can see, their foot feathers are tatterd and broken off...They were left to free range most of the summer. However, you can also see they do have great "middle toe coverage"

Which is another reason I decided to keep. Younger pics included later (have to dig em out) and then pics I took today. Have fun everyone, and if anyone wants to shoot for a Coloration on both boys, have at it...I've found none like them. And yes, the red roo is also blue spangled/blue tail, washed out light blue (almost lavender color) wings, tips and has blue hack feathers...The flash just made him look black, he's not tho. Comments welcome, good-bad-ugly lol.

UPDATE, as I kinda suspected, Aubrey confirmed the red boy is a blue mf...We are still undecided on the other *calico cowboy*
