D'uccle Thread

I was wondering if this pullet was show quality or not? I'm worried about all the black feathers on her head. In this picture it doesn't look like she has good foot feathering but its because she free ranges and her feet were really muddy in this picture. I know she has good foot feathering though and has feathers on her middle toes. Shes very sweet and has an amazing personality. I got her last July as a chick. Also, her beard is usually more fluffy but this picture was taken right after she got a drink.

She looks pretty good from what I can see, just make sure you prep her well for the show, put her on wire for 6 weeks before the show, and I've read that you should pluck any damaged feathers at that time so they grow back in time for show but I don't have much experience showing so I can't personally say that it has worked for me.

Always show them, if you think they have good traits. You can never tell what a judge will like or dislike.

The pullet of mine that they liked in my first show of the year has come in 2nd twice now to her sister who was 2nd in that first show. I don't think they changed that much in 4 weeks. The judge in the first show was really picky, too!

Also, I don't put mine on wire or condition them in any way. Just wash their feet and dust off their butts, then head for the show!
My coop is aspen shavings on the floor, and they have a sanded run. I let them free-range and they dig in the dirt along the woods. I don't pluck damaged feathers, but I do feed a higher protein feed. They get flockraiser plus fatty treats.

Good luck showing her!! She's lovely!

Alright, as you probably all know, I have a d'Uccle pullet.

But, my question was, what should I breed a porcelain to?

I know Mille Fleur to Porcelain is a popular cross, but I want to have less common colors.

I know about the lavender gene, which fades the mille fleur pattern on the mille fleur variety, thus making a porcelain.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!!! Shes my favorite pullet so I'm excited to show her! She follows me around everywhere! I don't think I would have been able to put her on wire floor anyways since I don't have anything with wire flooring. Her and the dog are even friends......

so happy that my eggs I put in the bator from my mille fleur d'uccle and her partner are developing great! I was sad b/c the first mate of Roo was killed by a dog and the sis of this one was too. But now we will hopefully be adding to our little d'uccle flock with new babies in about 2 weeks!

What is the intent of the breeding?
Is it to try to come up with new and non recognized colors? If so then it does not matter what you cross the porcelain to.

Or if it is to improve the characteristics of your current bird to be more showable.? With this you want to stick to more of the traditional crossings so as to produce something that you can still show.

Can someone please tell me if this is a d'uccle? I have been searching trying to figure out what type of bantam he/she is and self blue d'uccle is the closest thing I have come accross that looks like it. He/ she was part of a bantam assortment at Tractor Supply and I'm dying to know what he/she will look like grown. BTW some gorgeous babies on here!! Sorry for the not so good pic, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
