D'uccle Thread

Actually, I cheated

I ordered them from Welp Hatchery. Got self blues and golden necks...we'll see how many decent ones I get out of the group.

i have some self blue :D babies i hatched out i have a lavender and a porcelain but have read several times that this mix may not thrive but so far all of mine have been thriving and they are 5 weeks old if i remember right

I'm glad to hear those little guys are doing well, I bet they're really cute! I don't think I've ever see a lavender in person, how different do they look from the self blues?

Joanie_Maine - I don't think you're cheating. When the genetics are this confusing, how else are you supposed to get the colors you want:)

Kiaa - I love all your pics, the birds and the gardens are so pretty!

lavender and self blue are the same thing

i will have to take some pics of them
It's a dream of mine to own a lavender d'uccle. The only color I could find locally was the Mille fleur. My Mille fleur is sooooo funny! She throws temper tantrums if her buddy is laying an egg out of sight, if you touch her foot or thigh feathers or if a single rain drop falls on her. She screams/screeches and stamps her feet really fast. I absolutely adore her and her personality. She's one of a kind.:). I will always have a d'uccle in my flock. She is so far the smartest chicken in my flock and very sweet towards us.

Do all duccle hens/pullets have floppy combs? Mine has a floppy comb but all the other pics I see on here the hen/pullet has a short comb that stands up. She is the self blue color, 8 months old, lays every day and seems to be quite healthy. I was just wondering. Never owned chickens before. :)

the hens combs are fairly small but hatchery birds do tend to have a few flaws. their combs should never flop over on both hens and roos but should stand straight up

I don't know if they are from a hatchery or what, we got them from our local feed store as baby chicks. I think the cockerel is a porcelain based on the pictures I've seen on this thread and the pullet is the self blue color. His comb looks like he has a bad comb over hairdo LOL its just flopped over in the back the front stands up tall. But the pullet's comb is really thin and just long and lays flat on her head.
Just wondered if this was a sign of anything, illness, missing something in diet, etc.
Thanks for the reply :)
