D'uccle Thread

I don't know if they are from a hatchery or what, we got them from our local feed store as baby chicks. I think the cockerel is a porcelain based on the pictures I've seen on this thread and the pullet is the self blue color. His comb looks like he has a bad comb over hairdo LOL its just flopped over in the back the front stands up tall. But the pullet's comb is really thin and just long and lays flat on her head.
Just wondered if this was a sign of anything, illness, missing something in diet, etc.
Thanks for the reply :)

Unfortunately a feed store = hatchery:( sometimes u might get one worth breeding but rarely.. They will still look pretty and similar to others of its breed. The combs reflect the quality of its genetics. Enjoy their personalities:)

That is generally the rule, but I was surprised when Red, my Mille Fleur D'Uccle cockeral took best in show and Millie, a pullet took reserve in her class. Both of them came from Ideal Poultry in Cameron, TX. The judge was very surprised when I told him they were hatchery birds.

These are fun little critters.

Please explain the booted vrs not booted.

The second one is a lot more *ahem* "friendly" with the gals.....the 2nd one: not so much. I like the first one's darker color but if I had to chose between the two I'd keep the lighter colored one (the one walking on the grass) just because he is not chasing the girls 24/7.

the differnce in these 2 breeds is that a booted doesnt have a beard and have good sized wattles while a d'uccle has a beard and very small wattles

So now, with the above description clarifications, I can tell people that I am partial to my booted bantam!

That makes sense. Again, I'm still just learning! :) I do not plan to show them or anything, they are just pets. They both have great personalities! The boy has the most gentle demeanor he cuddles with me and hops into my lap to be petted. The girl is the same. I never knew chickens could be so loving! I even took them to my classroom when I finished teaching a unit about chickens (we hatched baby chicks) and they were great. The girl even laid an egg in the carrier LOL

I got my first d'uccles Thursday. I love them already, they are such sweet babies. (Sorry they are a little wet, I got a couple runner ducklings who are going in their own brooder tonight, since they are drenching everyone

I ordered blue mille, I'm guessing the light one is a splash mille? How long will it be until I can tell if the rest are blue or regular mille? I love them all whatever they are, hoping there aren't too many roos so most of them can stay, but was hoping for some of each color when I ordered blues lol. If they all turn out to be blue mille besides the splash though, that will just give me an excuse to get mille's in the spring.
