D'uccle Thread

has anyone sold their D'Uccles? how much do you ask for them? I quoted a price to someone other day and they have not contacted me back so I guess I might have been too high...I was offering a trio for $25.00 is that too much? I told them I had not sold any before so if it was too much let me know and I would drop the price. I would NEVER overcharge anyone..I couldn't sleep if I did.

I have sold trios between 20 and 30.00. Your price sounds great. Maybe they can't deceide if they should by them or not.

If you post some pictures up here I bet you'll get some specific input on pricing...

Value is a tricky thing to gauge. In my marketing-related experience, it will depend on the quality of your birds, where you are (regional market differences), and where you're selling them... Show quality will generally be higher than breeder quality which will be higher then pet quality. Regional differences are kind of all over the place (sometimes changing slightly depending on how you define "region"), so I would check how much other people in your area are asking for similar birds to get an idea. Which is related to the more specific "where" question: you can ask more for SQ birds for sale at a major show then at a local farmers market (well... you can ask, but they likely won't sell), and maybe only slightly less at a chickenswap where you're selling to other hobbyists; whereas the relative value of PQ d'uccles might be less at a major show where people are looking for SQ (unless they're rare in your area) then at a farmers market where they will stand out because they're so adorable and unique.

Just my thoughts...

I paid $80 for my pair..........plus shipping! so, no I don't think $25 is too much for your trio. Of course I also turned around and bought two hens that I consider better than the hen of the pair I had shipped in for $5 each and one of them went Best of Breed this past summer at Marietta, OH. The way I look at it, set the price according to what you feel they are worth and hold it. Don't apologize for what you're asking. You put your money, blood, sweat and tears into those birds.
If I might make one suggestion, don't hatch out more than you can handle on your own. I made that mistake and ended up having to give away some of my best birds because I couldn't take care of them. I could list the reasons this happened but I don't want to bore everyone and sound like a baby, suffice it to say I exercised poor judgement. I won't make THAT particular mistake again.

Not to worry, you'll be on the receiving end of some of them for some other stupid mistake that I make.

By the way, I got the porcelain chicks yesterday. They are very nice! We can definitely get a line going with them and the ones that you get.

Oh yeah... that was the other part of it! When in doubt, ask yourself what you'd actually want to pay for them if you were the buyer. That's the best way to have a clear conscience about it, I think.
