D'uccle Thread

They don't mix with Mille's and Mottled. I pretty sure that what I read. But someone who breeds porcelain might chime in.

Hopefully someone will chime in. Maybe not show quality but I thought the porcelain with mottled might be pretty.
Here are the birds back from quarantine. Got a little poppy in hte transportation crate so once they mellow out, will bath them so sorry for dirty birds, but here they are ! The mottled and roo are mildly friendly. Need to work with the blue mille(seen in pic with my mille who is super friendlY)

Okay it is on like donkey kong over here. I will be hatching like crazy and making a little money on unwanted chicks. So if I reverse the order and take a Blue Mottled hen under the Blue Mille Fleur, would I get the same combination? What about a Mille Fleur Roo over a Blue Mottled hen? The wheels are turning

Good thing I got that big incubator.
Blue to blue will give you gold necks.

Midge
So he is what I have to work with right now. What thoughts on who to put where?

I would keep them all together, and hatch a bunch of eggs! You are going to create a great bunch of birds and you'll be able to pick the best ones. If you want gold necks, breed Blue Boy and your blue mottled. Gold Necks are homozygous for blue, which means you would ALWAYS get blue when bred to reg mille. Miss Penguin is absolutely gorgeous, (I would take her in a heartbeat!) but I'm guessing the judges would say too much white. You could breed Midge to Blue Boy and even out his spots. Just remember that these birds get MORE spots as they grow older, so breed minimal spots to excess spots and see what happens.
Love those birds!

Thank you. Right when I hatched them I thought they would be great, and to think these little bitties came from just 3 birds, ijust started collecting for 7 days and started hatching. Then the 2 girls went broody and the one started molting. Haven't had an egg in over a month. But I did here the egg song yesterday, got busy and forgot to check. This is going to be a fun hatching winter, I can't wait. I have four breeding coops, so I can do a lot of different combo's.

How do D'uccles do in colder temps? I am in Anchorage and have Orpingtons and Coturnix Quail outside without heat. They do great. I have 6 little ones coming to my house to live and was going to put them outside once feathered. With temps as low as 20 below will they require heat? I have a green house with an oil filled radiant heater. But would prefer them not be reliant if it is not needed.
