D'uccle Thread

So i need those that have other birds as well as d'uccle's to chime in. What do your d'uccle roos sound like in comparison to your other roosters?
We had a silkie rooster and he was LOUD for his size. And he alarmed every time someone ran on the road by our house or the neighbor kids were out. So we have had a new d'uccle rooster for about a month and he is pretty shy still, but comes out and walks around with the other birds and then goes back to his safe spot. He is about 5-6 months old.
I think he is still trying to figure out how to "do the deed" with his ladies. He grabs their neck but doesnt "hop on". Doesnt go near the full sized girls like my little silkie boy did, but that may still come. Well.. have not hear a crow from him yet, but this morning I heard something... was more like a fairly quiet little croak.
How loud are your d'uccle roos? Do they have a crazy crow or just mine?
I happened to end up with a really loud d'uccle. He is as loud as any full sized roosters I have owned. He really makes me appreciate how quiet my serama is. There is probably a lot of variation though...I think I have an exceptionally loud fella.

Mine too. So much that I had to take away a toy from my Pyrenees, so she won't think they were toys. They do get a tad bit annoying also, if they are competing with bigger roosters.

My d'Uccle boy sounds like a little tin trumpet - somewhat quiet and soooo cute!

Wegotchickens has blacks. I'm waiting for some myself, lol.

mstricer, I can't wait for your eggs to be ready to ship out! I want some black mottled like your lovely penguin!

I am finishing up some very small night-time "coops" in which I will place heat lamps when necessary for my little groups of bantams for the winter. They are really not coops, just semi-enclosed small spaces for the chickens to get out of the weather, and to sleep in at night. It doesn't get below 30 degrees or so for the most part here, though.

Does anyone know where I could get any black d'uccles ? I have been searching the internet for weeks and can't find anyone who raises them. I've even looked at every hatchery I can find and have found nothing. I know they exist ! Anyone ?
I'll have hatching eggs available at the end of the month, if the girls keep laying....

Tee hee! The rooster is definitely romancing the ladies, but some of them aren't too happy about it. We've had a cold snap, even supposed to have frost on Tuesday, so laying is off right now. Just an egg a day from 5 ladies. I have a couple of lovely black pullets as well, but they won't be laying until the end of winter.

If anyone comes to the Knoxville show October 20th, I will have all the prettiest birds under my name, and all the oddballs there under my hubby's name. He's not allowed to beat me
