D'uccle Thread

So sorry to hear of your turmoil. I have a hen in the house due to a over zealous rooster, much larger and it has created a skinless place on the back of her head, not involving comb, but I had to separate her and put her on antibiotics and washing it out.

Its interesting about the points. I am learning a lot hanging out with you smart people! Like I've said before, I am in hopes that Santa will bring me a SOP book.

Thanks Spook. I'm really bummed because she was my best MF pullet of all this year's birds and the only one I planned to keep. She was still hanging on when I got home, but clearly not feeling well still. I did what I could to make her comfortable but I don't have much hope for her. She was less interested in food last night and content to bask in sunshine or my lap.

I bought out a MF breeder and have 11 new hens and 2 roos. I'm not sure what I think of the roosters. One is scruffy-looking, but I like his body shape. The other is sleek, but missing a toenail

The hens are far more spottier than mine, and not all have good toe feathering. A couple are older and I will probably sell them before too long since I need more space.
Right now my plan is to beed each of the roosters to a set of hens for a large spring hatch and then sell off most of the adults. I'll cull heavily for flaws, and see if I can get the tight body with the sleek feathers on the next generation. From then on I'll do spiral breeding and have a closed flock.

That's cool! How is their body shape and overall type?...i think you need to post pictures!

Here is my new girl Princess! <--- Don't hate on the names! She is >1

Ignore the dirty walls on the background, it was our pigeon coop (messy birds) their poop stains the walls apparently and we used it for 4 years as a hay room untill i hijacked it for my show coop! lol

Body shape is not bad at all. And feathers are good, including beards and muffs. Foot feathers I know I can improve by crossing with my current stock.

Will see about posting some pics...
Not the best pics, but all I have at the moment.

i love the frosty tips on your roo's tail feathers, i have a roo like that and i think it really makes them stand out. To me you don't see very many roos that have that trate.

So every time i see you post your birds, i get excited for hatching season!!! LOL!

Thanks the person i bought her from is a Judge and said i should do well with her. And everyone at the show said to talk to Jerry (the guy i bought her from) when i told them i breed Duccles so we will see how she does at the next show!

Thanks ya'll!
Yes, I'm excited for January to get here to I can fire up the incubator. I'd like to breed 2 runs of d'Uccles next year, a set of the spring show sales and a set for the fall show sales.

My goals for next year are to get the spiral breeding set up for the millies, and breed back the black mottleds for SQ lavenders.
I am falling in love with my little project birds. I culled hard, so they are coming along as gorgeous little birds with perfect d'Uccle temperments. Lately they have really made me laugh!!

I am soooo looking forward to seeing the d'Uccles at the OH Nationals!
