D'uccle Thread

Teddiliza that is awesome! I was the only one at the show with duccles that i went to so i did well! haha! Do you have any extra Porc Roo's? I need something with a short back.

Okay......Celtic

If you are SERIOUS about that statement....... I actually do have a rooster with a short back that looks pretty nice, he doesn't have the best foot feathering but a great beard, I might actually have to look into shipping birds. I am NPIP certified pullorum-typhoid clean so if that's all it takes, I'd seriously consider it if you paid for shipping and the box. He is not the calmest of my d'uccles, he wants to squirm when you pick him up, but he has learned that he doesn't get to play outside or go back in the coop unless he comes when I call. I'm afraid to let him with the other roos, as they picked on my last loner pretty bad, and he's just now getting over it. My other guy- still spends his days running from the other 2 main roos in my coop- I named him Cookie after he got a bite taken out of him when he jumped into my other coop of younger d'uccles- silly me left the door open and he paid for it.

Here is the boy in question. He has 6 points on his comb which is why I'm not going to breed him.

Please excuse the yucky chicken waterer which he used frequently for a perch.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with goofy d'Uccles that roost on their water bottles

I finally started putting large-ish flat bricks on them to try and keep a little poop out of the water (it does help).

Pretty boy, BTW. Shame about the comb. I hate it that there are so many different things to watch out for. An otherwise perfect bird gets rejected.

today because my best young millie girl got jumped by an over-sexed silkie roo and I think he injured her internally. I cuddled her a lot last night but have to be at work all day. I'm afraid she'll be gone when I get home.

Remember that the standard calls for 5 but the number of points is lower down on the scale when judged, if that is the biggest flaw then you can still come away a winner.

I have seen Roo's with either 6 points or 4 points come out better than ones with 5 points as it is the rest of the birds look and make up that make them a winner.

Yes we all want to have only 5 points but you must way the pros and cons of each bird for mating to try to come up with the best for each mating you are planning.
selecting for the balance of good and bad points between hen and roo.

Our Gang's are always roosting on the waterer if it is the highest thing available.

is it similar with d'uccles that if you breed a roo with to many or to few points on the comb to a hen with the opposite, that they can help to even out the # of points on the offspring?

Here is my Porcelain D'. Mind you, he is young and the 2 days prior to me purchasing him there was an incident that caused feather and comb damage, which all healed except the scraggly looking feathers. Oh and yes, mine use the waterers for perches too.
Here are various pictures of Moe, please critique him, I'd like to know... of course my Millies are with him for the winter.
