D'uccle Thread

Silkies4Ever, They are all really cute, but I think they will be too white. You never know though, they change a lot as they age, I am going to keep mine for at least a year before selling any because I don't want to see beautiful pics later of something I sold because I thought it was no good! Of the three, I like the little boy the best:)

Here are my "Mystery Chicks". They were the ones I had spoke of about 10 pages or so ago that were hatched from D'uccles with the only difference being an antibiotic treatment prior to egg collection. I think they are kind of dorky cute!  Sorry they aren't the best photos, I was using my cell phone.

In my most recent hatch of four that are about 3 weeks old, I have one that is black, one that is lavender and 2 millies.  Crazy rainbow assortment at my house!

He's cute. I like his crest!

The only birds in the pen were D'Uccles. I do not have any Silkies. I have one other non D'Uccle roo, but he is a 13# RIR cross and there is no way he is able to get into the breeding pen. It's perplexing....

That bird definitely has silky in him, from the black skin, to the purple comb, to the knot on top. Three different characteristics that are not d'uccle. A bird can stay inseminated for up to ten days from one breeding. I don't remember the story, whether you had just got them and they needed to be quarantined or what, but somehow, silky genetics crept into your birds.

Did you purchase a new hen before you set the eggs?

All my birds. I had one broody hen who was a frizzle...but she had been broody for about 3 weeks by that point (and actually hatched these cuties) and I assumed none of the eggs were hers. Let alone 3, since I collected all the eggs in a 24 hour period. That's what has me the most puzzled.

Update on Hope!: Little Hopie is doing well. I have seen her eating and drinking out of the feeders by herself a couple of times, which has me bouncing off the walls!!

This might be really late, have been off of the list for a while. A friend of mine has a completly blind pigeon that does find in her cage with finding her food and water. My friend has had her pigeon for about 10 years!
