D'uccle Thread

I see the term "squirrel tail" here a lot and was wondering of someone could define it for me? I assume it means the tail is held in such a way that it bends forward over the back a little? Also, cute chick pics everyone! I have been checking my eggs all day. It's only day 20, but you never know........
we are all egg checkers lol it is even worse when I have a pip I check ever minute haha

I have brown reds - a cockerel and four pullets.

Can't get people around here to buy them because they're not MILLES lol

So much for that project

Brown-red was the variety that was slated for admission to the SOP most recently, had passed the preliminaries, and were slated for a national show when avian influenza broke out and caused several states to be quarrantined. Since some breeders couldn't get to the national show, the numbers weren't sufficient for admission to the SOP. I think some of the older breeders are thinking of trying again, so hold on to yours and maybe you can help get them admitted!

You have the right idea about squirrel tail. d'Uccles should be "U" shaped between neck & tail, not "V" shaped.

I have no isuue with new colors but I am the kind of person that thinks if it is already around get it developed first! I see so many breeds where blue and black are recognized and splash isn't and instead of passing splash they out cross and bring in completely new colors! I would love to see silver and citron milles recognized and silver milles.
Self-blue (aka lavender) and black are recognized, but not blue or splash. The idea is that they need to be varieties that breed true. Blues (andalusion) and splash do not breed true.

EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are making me even more excited!! I am even worse when they start to pip too, then there is the ever annoying drying off phase while you wait to see what the real colors of everything are.....Okay, I'm going to check again right now, it's been like an hour.........

He is a self blue I am breeding him to my porcelain hens
good luck with that I had chicks die from failure to thrive from a self blue to porcelain paring. have her in with a golden neck just for the heck of it now and babies are all living I have no idea why it happened with that paring but it did

Anyone here go to the Show this past Sunday in RI? My D'uccles did pretty well. There wasnt a whole lot of competition but I'm still proud of my birds:) there were maybe 400 birds. There was about 10 total D'uccles at the show....

She's didnt want to pose for me and get her tail UP but prfermed well when the judge was around:)

Of course always the most competition with Milles and she came out on top

Pretty disappointed in how this guy was judged. I thought he was better than my mottled hen and all the D'uccles for that matter.....
