D'uccle Thread

Off the top of my head, there are wwmicasa1 and pamperedpoultry on here that both have black and blue mottled d'uccles. wwmicasa1 is in CA, pampered poultry is in VA. On ebay there is a seller by the name of 1234muki that also has black and blue mottleds, she is in TN. All of these sellers have very nice birds.

I know how hard it is to make that decision... I sold my favorite cockerel at a recent show, and I'm having MAJOR sellers' remorse about the decision to let him go.

Do you have pics of your birds? Will you ship (how much does that cost?)?

They weren't in the sale pens. I had arranged with Lori earlier to buy them, so they went right out of her car and into my car. They are gorgeous though.

Also, I send you a PM about your birds.

Yes. I know I'm too chatty and can ramble. We compared notes a lot over there. But I was learning from the rambling, and gaining confidence. So to be told 'no one wants to read through all this crap' knocked the wind out of me, too.
Had I not rambled on this thread, BBB would not have given me a valuable piece of info, like about Ron possibly getting the lace gene into his millies.

BBB, thanks for the info on Ron and the possibility of lacing. I feel like I do when I get a puzzle piece clicked into place. Especially after seeing GypsyChic's all black birds. When I bred the project birds I only had the RT millies to breed from, and for both crossings to show the lacing really confused me.
By both crossing I mean MF over lav hens, and lav over mf hens. I had the 2 groups of chicks separate for a while to see if there were any obvious differences. My original goal for that was to see if I got better feather style from the mf roo versus the mf hens (who carries gene for feather quality?). There was no obvious difference in feather quality, though. All showed improvement (losing tattered almost silkie edges and going to a smoothly edged feather).

BBB, are you going to the OH Nationals?
If anyone on this thread is, I'd love to meet you all!!!!

Not been on here for a few days and wanted to catch up. I also wanted to share this pic with you Wegotchickens...interesting lacing on this lil roo. Is this the color (or similar) to the mahogany you spoke of earlier?? Just curious, he's from one of my project pens. Nice shape, interesting color, but also notice the severe lack in proper foot feathering

LILCROW: Sorry to hear about your situation...I cant imagine what a hard decision that must be. I know for me, I'm not sure I could do it. Hang in there, chin up

Thanks everybody for your kind remarks and support. My heart is breaking, but I have to do this. I've gotten myself into this situation and it is my own fault. I just don't seem to know how to say "No" when it comes to these guys. Chipmunk, I know that picture doesn't do your bird justice. I really don't think I'd seen a true GN and didn't know what to look for until this weekend. They take my breath away.......they look bedazzled.
I have a family situation that is pressing and my 89 yr old mother is taking priority right now. It is also hard for me to admit that I can't do the things I use to be able to do. A few years ago all this wouldn't have been a problem, but that's just not the case anymore.
Gypsylion, you ask if I will ship, and the answer is yes as long as it can be done safely. The cost is dependent on distance, so that would need to be checked individually and yes I have pictures of the MF, the pictures of the lavenders aren't very good so I'll try and get something tomorrow if I can make sure that Mom is safe while I go out and get a few.
This is Eric the roo:

I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles. We all need to do what we need to do with the things in our lives that simply ARE, as hard as that can be sometimes...

Thanks for the pictures. How old is Eric? What about your hens?
